Help me position my ads please

Guys I am about to add more adsense to my site. The main pages are the Homepage and the discussions pages. I am thinking I need 3 ads on each page as I am now getting about 4k uniques a day.

If I put an advert below the list of categories on the left will it not get me paid because it is below the fold? Any other suggestions?
