We can see authority sites are enjoying ever, so we should also build authority site instead of building several one page site....

Yes, it would take time, take effort, money as well but it can give benefit too.

You can see authority sites like about.com, ehow.com, articlesbase etc. they are performing well.

ehow and articlesbase are somewhat between authority sites and content farms in my opinion.

However I think since Google are continually devaluing micro niche sites, 1 page sites and now EMD (exact match domains) the whole search market seems to be favouring authority sites.

Authority sites are certainly favored now more than ever. However, ehow and articlesbase are certainly not authority sites. As Pete mentioned above, these sites were among the first targeted by the Google algorithm.

Let's take a look at a real world example of this.

Since my phone is sitting next to me, the term "top Android phones" comes to mind.

In the past, someone would create a site named Top Android Phones | News of the latest Android-compatible phones | Best Android smartphones (oh, what a shocker, someone has) and dominate the results for this keyword phrase.

This is no longer the case. If you google "top Android phones" the "cNets" and "PCMags" --the real authority sites--now rule the rankings.

Building larger sites requires no more time or money than several smaller sites. I actually find larger sites to be easier to build and maintain.

There's a difference between authority sites and large niche sites.

go broad, non keyword domains, good brand, make authority, you can rank really well over time, and build massive sites, when i say massive its not even that much 1000 pages is already a ton, if you target really well you can make some real traffic and sales on many products

I thought I had an authority site, but it got hit hard.

HubPages has been toasted by this update, so big, general sites are vulnerable.

Forums are ranking well, but it really takes time to establish a good forum, and you'll need the geek skills required to keep the spammers away.

My suggestion - partner up with a bigger player in your favourite niche, and split the advertising revenue from stuff you do in enhancing their site.

Edit: Wow, that was my 500th post here!

    • Building an authority site requires a lot of time and hard work, but it's well worth the effort. These websites are considered to be more valuable and trustworthy by the search engines, and have a more solid foundation (permanent backlinks, loyal readers, lots of indexed posts, etc).

Most of my thin sites got smacked with this recent Google EMD update...but my thick authority sites are still chugging along quite well.

No matter how much time it may take, no matter how much effort it may require, no matter how much it may cost. If we want to do well and if we want dominate then we need authority page. There is no other alternative option we have.
