is it possible to recover from this?

Maybe if you de-indexed your website. I don't know where you'd stand on the content being copied. I'm currently ranking an EMD, and it's ranking fine. Saying that, it's a new website, going to run it as a trial to see just how affected EMD's are.

I would venture to say it is the content that is the problem more than the EMD, so just copying your content to a non-EMD site is probably not going to get you ranked.

As far as if you can recover from this... Well, it just happened. Nobody can honestly tell you if you can or not. It's only been a few days.

However, there are tons of EMD's that are still ranking in variety of niches. I would analyze those sites, compare them to yours, see what they are doing differently and try to emulate it.

all of my content was unique, however i think here was a bit of keyword stuffing. ive started to remove that keyword term. i wonder if this will work..

That's the right move right there, analyzing your keyword density and rewriting/adding content to existing pages that previously ranked well.

Some of our clients also got hit by the latest update, some as recently as today. The sites that were hit 2 or more days ago already showed improvements in rankings after some content was slightly edited, so you're definitely on the right path towards recovery.

I wouldn't waste time analyzing keyword density. I would just read your content. If it sounds like shit and feels like you are stuffing your keyword in there to the point that it compromises the readability, fix it.

but, if the site has been slapped doesnt that mean its been sent to a black hole? likelihood is that it will never get crawled again, thus never seeing the changes made to re-rank? even if it does get crawled, chances are its been tarred and will never hit page 1 again..?

Google still crawls sites that are deindexed.

From what it sounds like your site just lost some rankings. It will get crawled.

Do you really think so, I believe my sites have not been deindexed but they were hit by the penguin update and I am sure since then Google has not crawled my home pages because as soon as I got hit I changed the title tags for some of my sites but even after nearly six months I still get my old title when I search for my sites.

Great post Becker... For all the haters shove it... I have been doing seo for many years and have learned tons from Becker this year alone. I actually have seen almost exzactly what he it talking about with sites that got hit and sites that dint in are portfolio. No issues with our sites tht were not over optimized and set up with many pages deep of content. Others where I was milking emd got killed. So keep up the good work man.
