Should I Be Scared to Backlink at All?

My sites always keep getting hit by these stupid Google updates. Even two of my authority sites without EMDs and using different backlinking techniques got hit.

They will still get traffic via referral and direct, but the organic traffic is basically nonexistent now.

Do you think it is just better to not backlink at all?

    Good links and not quantity and put together a long term goal because it will seem like its not worth it.

    So if your sites keep getting wacked by Google, why do you continue to do the same thing?

        Change your approach and try new strategies. Test one link building method at a time and then see what works best for you. Guest posting, social media marketing, and press release distribution should work just fine.

    Above is a good question....

    Theres no point doing the same thing - you will get the same results.

    Look at where you could improve and improve on that, maybe improve your content quality.

    I dont think removing options like backlinking is the answer....you need to enchance and improve what your currently doing

    I don't see why you'd be scared of linking....

    Just build decent links and don't make 1,000 a day and you'll be fine

      Exactly. I don't see why people keep using Google as their only source of
      traffic. As an IM, you should have 2 goals in mind:

      Short Term Income: Sites you can turn and burn.
      Long Term Income: Authority Sites.

      Everyone knows how to create a turn and burn website. The authority
      websites are what people seem to be having trouble with.

      In my opinion, here are 3 ways to become an authority.

      1. Youtube.
      2. Aweber.
      3. Merchant.

      Make weekly Youtube videos, and show people something worth watching.

      For example: If you lost 200 pounds, then show people your before and after
      pictures, and show them how to lose 200 pounds.

      For example: If you made money on a stock investment, teach people how
      to invest money in stock.

      You will be surprised as to how many people will actually comment your videos
      and like your videos if you provide them with something interesting and useful.

      With Google, you're chasing the end of the rainbow.

      Diversity is key.

      Investing solely in Google traffic is like investing all of your money in a single
      stock, and hoping to hit the jackpot.
