PMDs affected more than EMDs

I was just looking at MozCast Metrics and according to their sampling of the SERPs, Partial Match Domains have been affected more than Exact Match Domains.

Just thought that might help explain some of the non EMD sites that reported SERP drops at the same time the Low Quality EMD update was pushed out.

You have to click on the 'EMD Influence' and 'PMD Influence' Tabs on the link above to see the relevant data.

The only point I can understand from this information is to have a domain that doesn't even hint at the topic of your site...I guess like "Amazon."

So much for all the blueprints, etc., out there that start off by saying you've got to have an EMD!

Not really - there are many people, myself included, who have not been adversely affected by this update with either EMDs or PMDs - it's all about being on the right side of Google's quality assessment.

  • I think that the EMD penalty adds to your Google 'negative' quality score and if you have other elements that are receiving a negative score then the latest update has pushed some sites over the threshold, while others are still below the threshold - they might have better on-site optimization (not over-optimized), no dodgy links etc.

As jxam69 says, it's about Google's quality assessment.
