Some Things to Remember about SERP and PR of a Website

Hello everyone!

It's been repeated all over again that the page rank (PR) of a website doesn't affect its SERP position but there are still a lot of people asking about the importance of a website's PR. Since the topic is sort of confusing for others, here's a short explanation why a website's PR doesn't affect its position in the SERP.

The reason why page rank (PR) of your website is important is if you are planning to sell your site or to sell advertising space on it. These are why you have to be conscious of your website's PR.

The page rank (PR) of your website or page doesn't count when ranking in the search engine results page (SERPs). However, the PR of the pages from which you get your backlinks matter.

Why so?

The PR of a page depends on the number of backlinks it has. On the other hand, the SERP position of a page depends on how good your page ranks for a specific keyword.
For instance, your website has backlinks to it in the following manner: 10000 each for keywords 1 to 5. The PR depends on these total 50000 backlinks. However, its SERP position for a certain keyword depends only on the 10000 backlinks.

If you build 50000 more backlinks for a 6th keyword, then there will be a good effect on your website's PR, which already has a sum of 100000 backlinks. However, it won't have an effect on its SERP position for keywords 1-5 though the 6th keyword will be ranked according to its 50000 links. This is why your website's PR wouldn't affect your website's position in the SERP.

Now, what about the PR of the websites from which you get your backlinks?

Basically, high PR sites are better than low PR sites when it comes to improving your website's PR. For instance, you concentrated on high PR sites for your backlinks. Those 10000 backlinks of high PR are the same as if you obtained 30000 backlinks from low PR websites. This simply means that by just getting backlinks from high PR sites, the position of your website in the SERP will improve.

Summary:
SERP position depends on the backlinks for a specific keyword.
PR depends on the quality and TOTAL amount of all its backlinks.

So, how's ur website's PR and SERP?

I don't agree with you. Still google is giving more importance to page rank for ranking search results. Even i have encountered some search results that were framed based on sites PR.

You are wrong. PR is not the determining factor for rankings, but it is a factor. Can a PR 0 outrank a PR 2 for a given keyword? Absolutely. There are many other factors that go into rankings, but PR is one of them.

This is also completely wrong. The number of links does not have a direct impact on the PR of a website.

A site with 10,000 PR 2 links is going to have a far different PR than a site with 10,000 PR 0 links.

Of course, PR is not the only factor in determining rankings and I should have made it clear in my post.

I think this site will clarify what I'm trying to say.

This is taken from the above site:

Is the PageRank (PR) number for the entire site?

PageRank is determined for each individual Web page, as every page on your website has a different PR. The site home page is likely to have the highest PR as it will have the most sites linking to it. Each internal page will have a different Google PageRank. In many cases, the PageRank for a very informative and heavily linked article on an internal page will be higher than that of the site's home page.

      How is PageRank determined?

PageRank is calculated based on both the quantity and PageRank quality of your incoming links. The higher the PR of your incoming links, and the fewer outbound links there are on a page, the more PR is passed to your Web page.
