Your Thoughts on Bing/Yahoo Ranking?

Hey Everyone,

I know that Google is where the traffic is but over the past 6 months they have just been getting more and more frustrating to deal with.

This last "EMD" update tanked a TON of rankings on my authority site on which I had done NO backlinking and nothing "nefarious" whatsoever.

It's in a niche that I am very passionate about (classical guitar) and all I did was write good posts on long-tail stuff that was very relevant.

It took a few months but I was averaging ~70-100 UV's per day from the long-tail traffic and then poof, gone again over night.

The good thing is, I took the time to build a facebook/youtube presence so the bulk of my traffic is still intact and Google can't really hurt me there but it's just frustrating.

Anyways - to my original point - is anyone focusing on Bing/Yahoo rankings these days?

Some of my old niche sites which haven't done much in Google in months are still making consistent sales from Bing/Yahoo traffic (mainly Bing) and the rankings seem SO much more stable.

I know it's just the same old deal for those guys as well, build quality links over time and you will rank...

But I was just wondering if there are any warriors out there who have perfected the Bing/Yahoo game into more of an art and maybe want to share a juicy tip or two (probably not haha)

Love to hear what you all have to say,

Rob

I personally ignore it. It doesn't make sense for me to invest a ton of time in less then 20% of the market share.

Still worth the effort up to 20% more/easier ranking.

Why spend a time of time when the same time I spend making sure I rank well for Google seems to ensure I rank well with the other search engines. Bing seems to index when it feels like it and only indexes what it feels like.

Optimizing for Google generally ends up working for Yahoo/Bing eventually

I've had a lot of success with Bing/Yahoo - mostly long tailed keywords in competitive markets though...

EDM works well for Yahoo/Bing but you need to find a keyword that receive hundreds of thousands of searches monthly to be worth sufficient traffic from Yahoo & Bing.

However, it's not the EDM or non EDM that is the issue but the quality and authority of a site adhering to Google Webmaster Policy.

From my experience, it's slow to rank on Yahoo and EDM rank quicker on Bing and with Google you have to be a smart ass.

I guess my thoughts are these days is that a ranking in Bing seems to be A LOT more stable than a ranking in Google - I'm pretty much fed up with working with Google (in fact I don't really worry much about SE traffic anymore in the first place) - A good ranking in Bing seems to stick however and will send me the traffic long term even though Google bumps it up and down and all around.

From my experience this doesn't seem to be the case at all - I've had sites doing very well in Google that don't seem to ever hit page 1 on Bing.

It definitely takes more time to rank in Bing but I guess that's why I just wanted to hear what other people think - if they are having success with certain links etc... that seem to give sites a push in bing.

Yes but if you can attain a ranking and keep it for the long-term as opposed to being dicked around by Google, I'd take that 20% and just scale it, wouldn't you?
