Best strategy for internet marketing is not thinking about internet marketing at all.

So this would explain why there were EMD and non EMD sites hit, 2 different changes. Which pretty much trashes a lot of the existing theories

No it doesn't. Most assumptions included that it was more than emd.

It's not a coincidence that they flipped the switch on 2 different updates at basically the same time. That's on purpose. Google needs SEO to be murky and constantly in flux so a lot of people just throw their hands up and surrender. They want as many paying them for traffic as they can get. Follow the money... it's the solution about 99.9% the time. We're not meant to figure this stuff out. We're meant to give up and pay them. It's a cut-throat world, boys and girls.

Gosh, you think? Do you think that's why Google went public in the first place?

Of course these frigging updates are about them making more money. If YOU were Google would you worry about happened to the average turd's website? I know I wouldn't. I'd be all "F You Pay Me" just like them.

Yea they really ran a good distraction with this EMD nonsense, when the reality is this is NOT what all this was about. Nice

I don't think that's the case. Because if they took out #1 website someone else will take the #1 place, and that person who takes the #1 could well have been paying G for traffic.

I really liked your comment. I guess google wants webmasters to make more effort or just leave the internet marketing stuff for good

Well it definitely worked, because I'm really scared to do SEO.

Just watched my friend lose his "web design business" nowhere at all to be found on the first 30 pages......after being page 1 for atleast 2 years! Same happened to his friend as well several months back.

Unfortunately anyone can ruin their competitions site if they wanted to.! SEO is dangerous, but without it, it's almost impossible to rank well if competing against established sites. Kind of a catch 20 situation.

Definitely going to focus on other sources from now on and let the chips fall where they lie when it comes to the big G.

Or maybe buying adwords is the answer lol..

I must admit, I am still a little confused as to why my site lost rankings.

The weird thing is that my site is still ranking in Yahoo and Bing and I am getting a few visits a day, but obviously no where near enough to see any type of conversions.

What's weird about that? Yahoo and Bing are totally different search engines. Of course Google algorithm changes affect only to your Google rankings.

Google never say 100% truth so why you should believe it is truth that update effected only 0.6% of search queries...

They tell the truth far, far more often than people give them credit for. What exactly have they lied about?

To answer your question: what do they gain by "lying" about the .6% number?

I guess those who are affected with this update as usual going to play a blame game instead of improving there strategies and status in SERPs again.
An Update is essential for better results in SERPs so i am in favor of any update which comes in, whether its going to affect my rankings or not.

I agree. I've seen people simply lashing out at anyone who tries to help them. Heck, I'm getting accused of being a spammer, a scammer, and of just plain kicking people when they are down. I have no idea where it's coming from.

People just need to put their big-boy pants on, dust themselves off, and move on. It's not my fault or anyone else's fault that your sites were hammered.

Generally speaking, it's about quality unique content or page quality in general. So many updates I'm starting to get confused so don't quote me on that.

While the updates affect a lot of people here (and in other IM forums), one thing I don't understand is the paralysis people seem to suffer from.

It's OK if you are afraid of creating links due to the latest (and constant) changes; but it's not an excuse to do nothing at all. Just focus on your sites, create original and useful content.

Add some more (real) social presence to your mix, and then keep adding content and focus on long tails. This way you can get a lot of (much more stable and better converting) traffic.

EMD wasn't necessarily affected. Only LOW-QUALITY EMDs full of spun crap or poor content were hit. My EMDs actually went *up* in rank after the update since they're real blogs containing real content and are updated often enough to keep Big G happy.

To say that 'low-quality EMDs' were impacted is another generalization.

In fact, many truly hideous EMDs are currently ruling the roost.

My initial research has turned up a possible reason for this.

Many of the garbage EMDs were smart about their linking.

    Let's take an example:

    Desired keyphrase: Best Dog Crap
    Domain: bestdogcrap.com
Title: Best Dog Crap - Man It Tastes Good!

Then they linked extensively without the main keywords. "Man it tastes good!" "Click here to see how good it tastes."

With about links from 100 IP ranges, they're golden.

As I said in the other thread, all tanked sites had poor grammar and spelling mistakes.

No wonder they tank after such update, and then people start to nag that it are the links that I build. Yeah right.

Lesson learned. Any business based solely on people finding your website in organic search is very risky. Reap the benefits while you can, but don't expect them to be there tomorrow.

Gotta give it to google, nice play on switching 2 switches in a couple of days to add to the hysteria and confusion.

Kind of did the same with blog networks and penguin but with a much bigger gap.

The updates make sense. Let the spammers throw in the towel who are just in for the quick buck.. like most of the people here it seems.. And let the LEGIT content makers, the ones who make interesting good articles be the victor!
