The past two days I keep seeing a lot of virus alerts in Google SERPs, always on the first page per keyword.

This site may harm your computer.
Not sure If G is getting better at finding problem pages or more sites are getting hit with virus/scripts.

The first time I noticed the SERP message it was for the largest forum in the same niche I'm in. Now I'm seeing more domains with that message.

It sounds like You have adware on your computer.. Not the Sites with the Issue. Find Out what Program is running these errors on your Browser. Maybe a Toolbar or something.

      No, not on my PC.

This is Google SERPs warning the page listed in Google SERPs has something wrong with the page/s (don't visit the page). I pasted the usual SERP warning in OP.

Can't do that, it would give up my keywords.

Here is what I'm talking about: Results labeled "This site may harm your computer" - Web Search Help

Also here: "This site may harm your computer" - Google Search

Google has had this message for a long time, I'm surprised more people have never seen the messages in the SERPs.

Also keep in mind, the niche I'm in is very family friendly, small business/hobby type stuff.

I found a problem page that wasn't related to my own keywords/niche, just a random page.

Obviously don't click that link in the SERPs.

Copy & paste this into Google search:
    inurl:forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1902100

These sites are blocked by google safe browsing, that's why you see that message. If you try to go to the sites you will have the warning message (How To Fix Website Blocked By Google Safe Browsing | iwebchk)

AVG anti-virus may show a lot of alert messages. Close your AVG.

Virus alert message appears in Google SERPs list either because the sites that have appeared is blocked in Google safe search or your antivirus find the pages malicious. Look at the query that you are searching for or just check your antivirus tool; it may be having any type of security conflict.

You can also refresh the antivirus with its latest version. Some of the antivirus software like AVG, Norton, Kaspersky, Bitfinder or Immunet Plus has extensive features for blocking internet threats. You may uncheck them to see whether it is the antivirus or the virus troubling you.

That message has nothing to do with antiviruses, and Google is not falling apart. Many websites are vulnerable (outdated software, insecure passwords). Some WordPress files may be subject to attack (ie. upload a malicious file using an unprotected theme or plugin file). There are many ways. Google only reports "This site may be harmful to your computer" when it detects malicious code.

Actually it's pretty easy to hack wordpress sites with specific plugins. All you need to do is find the loopholes and the special software to decrypt the passwords.

I have a friend who's hacking different wordpress sites to get his links placed in the content... and it works. However, i'm not encouraging anyone to do so

All the more reason a person shouldn't use code they can't read/understand (HTML/PHP).

Ive noticed that sometimes if using Chrome as a web browser, the extensions you install can add problems. For example, I added an extension and it added Advertisements all over the websites I visited, even like Facebook haha

hackers can post what ever content they wish on a website they have hacked and now have unlimited access to. In this case Google may penalize that website (temporarily) as they want to deliver content from high quality website .
