Start Fresh or Try to Recover?

I had a blog doing well for 6 months and then got hit over the weekend and now traffic is cut by 3/4

Should I start a new blog, or spend my time recovering the blog that got hit?

    If I was in your shoes the first thing I would figure out is what went wrong so I wouldn't screw it up again.

      I know went wrong. I got to aggressive with my backlinks.

      I have fixed that, but just trying to figure out if its worth it to recover the blog, or start fresh.

        Well, this is what i did for 2 weeks....

        Spend a bit on content, get at least 20 new articles for your site, posts about 5 on the first day, then squedule 2 a day for the rest. Change your meta tag, titles a little bit, only create a few backlinks (blog post) with natural keywords.

        This worked for me, hope that helps.

        In that case, you should rebuild a list of backlinks you created for your site. Sort them by quality. Find low quality backlinks and then try to remove them. You can remove them through contacting the webmaster to remove the link or by using your account login (if you have created one) etc. If you can get rid of these low quality backlinks, you will see a dramatic change in your ranking.

    I guess me personally.. if I had a real domain name registered, I would recover. I hate admitting defeat but that's just me. If it is just some freebie domain, nothing really lost and could be easier just to start over.

    If any blog/site downed then there might be some reasons. Try to figure those out. New blog means everything would be new. It would be extremely time consuming.

    If you have the time and money don't give up... Look more at your Backlink Profile and on Page Seo.....

    Study your competition Back-link Profile (Anchor text variation) to make the relevant adjustment to yours and remove some of the keywords from articles would also help...

    Remember to add more content... Don't give up unless it can't be help...

    Definitely don't start over.

    Worst case scenario - you spend a couple hundred on a consultation for some professional seo, to get your site ranking again.

    Other possible action - buy new domain, change domain to new one, and 301 redirect your old one.

    If you had good traffic and or income I would certainly try to recover it. You said it was doing well so obviously there is an audience out there for it.

    Recovering from it is the good idea although its time consuming just like making efforts in starting a new one but the time consumption is much less when compared.
    Also it depends how badly your blog was hit.If its being hit too hard then starting a new one will be fruitful.

    Its kinda funny but yeah its true that few of them does provide services to remove low quality backlinks..lol

    First we need to pay money to get them build and then pay more money to get them removed..lmao

    Do you know about the latest update, bout the EMD's? Google it if you didn't read about it. Maybe your site get hit with it.

    Personally, I never keep all my eggs in 1 basket. Thats why I have more than half a dozen sites and I do things other then SEO. But you can surely try to work on it for a month and see the results. If you don't get good results, its better to move on and build a new one instead of wasting your time. I think you can start a new one now and also keep working on the old one.

    Try to recover it. Think about it this way, how many people sold their blogs when Panda/Penguin first hit? How many of those who actually made an effort got their rankings back after a while?

    Answer to both questions: Many

    EMD aren't completely useless now, they're still considered strong domains, Google is simply trying to weed out the weak.

    Improve your content, get more content and develop a solid off-page strategy. That's all its gonna take (which is the same as its going to take should you decide to start over).

    Starting afresh is not a good idea. I suggest you try to recover the already hit blog, but you have to know where you went wrong that made your site to get hit by penguin so you don't make same mistake again.
