EMD's were hit, Plz share your thoughts on new Recovery Method :)

Hi all. Like many people my 'exact match domains' were badly hit by Googles recent update. I have an idea to try and recover and was hoping one of you seo masters could pass your opinion...

I had quite a few emd domians (all were hit) focusing on different areas of the same niche. I was thinking getting a new brand domain (so no emd) and transfering all the content over and doing individual 301 page redirects...

I have two concerns about this method...

1.) I've been reading up about it and was a little concerned about duplicate content, as transferring files over to a new domain whilst the same content is indexed on the old domain may upset Google... But am i right in thinking that if i transfer the content over and do the individual 301 page redirects Google should know that it is not a duplicate content site but a transfer...?

2.) Another query is that - would the emd penalties transfer over to the new domain via the redirect... only the new domain will be a brand one, not an emd so would it be immune from that kind of penalty?

Any imput wold be greatly appreciated!

    IMO the sites that were hit with an EMD penalty had thin content, EMD alone did not result in a penalty.

      Yeah i know, but my sites were all updated daily with personally written 100% unique relevant content with no less than 500 words.

      The content was far from thin or low quality. The only thing i can really think of is that the domains weren't that old. They ranged from 6months to 2 years. While most had over one hundred pages of content within the niche they didn't have thousands, perhaps that is what Google was looking for...

    Maybe a competitor hit you with his Scrapebox? New domains can be hit easily on a negative way with Scrapebox. Best thing to recover is to write quality content, linkbuilding in a article on another website with low outbound links and many more ways, just make sure you do it all manually.

      Cool thank you for the imput. I'm not sure if it could have been that as all my emd domains went down and they were on a few different hosts, but still a possibility i guess. Plus i was attempting to recover from penguin on allbut one site, so i wasn't exactly much of a threat to any competitor

        You can be a threat if you start now and dont give up.

    You can use the change of address tool in GMT to move your site to a new domain.

    My site is only 2 months old and i recovered! This is what i did.

    I was #2 on Google, after Google's EMD update, i changed my meta tags a little, title, keyword density etc.

    I made sure i didn't have an anchor text on my site for my EMD for internal linking.

    I then got about 20 unique articles written, posted 5 on 1 day, then posted about 2/3 each day for the rest.

    Got some steady blog post links - with natural backlinks.
    8-10 days later im back at #9

      When you made blog posts links, did you look for a blogs with a minimum PR or didn't you take that into consideration?

      What position was your site in after it was affected by the EMD update?

        My blog posts generally have decent PR, and many are related to my niche. I am currently on the first page. #9. I am happy with this

          Google doesn't consider meta tags do they? I don't think changing keyword density would make a difference unless it was excessive.

    I had a site that tanked but then came back not as high but up to page 2. Didn't do much to make it come back but I made sure everything is natural on the page now, not trying to "target" any keywords anymore.

    Not putting the keywords in the meta tags or in the title and things like that. Also anchor text are natural and random.

    One of my main concerns is that...

    I have put a lot of time into my emd domains and they have a lot of content i would really hate to waste, plus once upon a time the emd sites did rank well (two were hit by penguin and the other 3 by emd update) and the backlinks would be good to pass the juice over.

    A content transfer to a new combined brand site would save a lot of time and energy and the link juice and previous authority may help the new site rank better.

    Or do you think i take away the gamble of passing any penalties from the original sites away and cut my losses and start a totally new domain, from scratch with no 301 redirects and content transfer?

    Your opinions an wisdom would be extremely appreciated

      If it were me, I would salvage the content and 301 re-direct. That old EMD domain then becomes a tier / buffer / filter site to keep the junk they're and only pass the good stuff through.

    If you are just guessing that you have been hit then just wait two weeks. I thought my EMD was hit and indeed it was but a week later even though I continue to suffer on my primary keywords my traffic is gradually being restored to pre-hit levels. My site is ranking in words I never ranked before so just wait around if your content was good.

    Hi, I have a friend who have a EMDs sites and he conduct investigations on why some of his EMDs sites were not effected by the updates. Read it below:

    If you're one of those who was affected by the recent EMD
    crackdown of Google and wondering why other EMD sites are still
    there,strong and some of them are even climb higher position.
    Here is the result of our investigation to our 50 EMD sites, some
    of them are affected and many of them was not affected.
    1. Most of the sites that remain and even climb to their rankings
    was shared more than 50 times in facebook, twitter, linkedin,
    google plus, and youtube
    2. All of the 39 sites have their own youtube channels while the 11
    sites affected have no channels in youtube.
    3. All 39 sites only have 3% or lower keyword density
    4. Keyword has been use in the title combine with other phrase or
    words
    5. Keyword has been use in the h1 tag, combine with other phrase or
    words
    6. All affected site use more than 30% of the keyword as anchor
    text while the 39 sites only use 20% or lower as anchor text.
    7. All 39 sites have more than 15 post and the 11 sites have only
    2-4 post
    8. And lastly to our observation is that all our site that was not
    affected have link to one or more authority sites related to it.
    For example one of our niche is about SEO we link to google.com,
    SEOmoz, and Bing.com
    We tried to fix this problem with our 11 sites, hope in the next
    few days or weeks they will recover.
