Question about pinging and fiver backlinks.

I'm testing some gigs on fiver. This was apparently a "high pr" gig done in senuke and I'm curious about WHAT types of links these are? When I got his excel sheet I copied it into scrapebox, checked the pr, and they are all pr NA links. So obviously NOT high pr.
The seller said he wasn't going to ping them. But out of all the links he did, none are showing up. Its been about 2 months so far. I had a few hundred done, and would have expected at least *1* to be indexed by now.
Question is. Is it even worth pinging these links? I don't really understand pinging. The way I see it, if they links are good, google will find them fast. If they aren't good, google will never find them. So, since google isn't finding these, that tells me they're crap, and I shouldn't even worry about pinging?
So then... why do people even ping in the first place?
