My .com got banned from Google index, so decided to use the .co.uk domain and abolish all ties with the .com, will this work or does Google still know this is the same site?

Ok thanks. So is it possible for Google to realise that this is the same content from the banned site?

As long as you don't use the same style/content on your new page, that's the way to go.

BANNED from the index? Your content must really have been terrible. What makes you think it will survive on another domain?

It wasn't the content, I invested in an SEO company foolishly and had a ton of bad links, which got me banned from their index, so I have switched to the .co.uk in hope of resurrection. Do you think this is the right move?

Are none of your pages indexed anymore? Not even in top 1000 for ANY keywords?

All hope isn't lost for your .com domain, but these penalties generally stay a while, even if you're trying to switch things around doing proper on-and-off page SEO. So, it's possible to reclaim your site's good name, but it will take time (SEO always does).

Getting a new domain might be the faster option, but obviously requires more work than fixing the old one.

If you are thinking to take your content from the old site and simply make a copy&paste on a new domains then no , it's not a good idea as if your content is still indexed it would be duplicate content. You can homever re-build a site on the same brand on another domain with different content and get ranked again.
