Came across this post recently. Sure makes some interesting reading.

Re-thinking "search"engines

Having read through them Google might well end up shooting itself in the foot big time. It might already have done so.

Once you get big, especially in a data sensitive area like the web/search you are both going to have your fair share of detractors and litigations.

This is a classic example of not understand large scale business, these things always happen and will continue to happen. If you don't like Google done use them, it is fairly simple.

That's pretty much what I was telling folks in this similar thread:

Yawn... How many times did every country imaginable go after Microsoft?

You get BIG & everyone goes on a witch hunt.

        Oh really?

Apparently Google now owns around 90% of the global search market and close to 100% of the mobile market. Not my made up stats as you can see here:

Google owns mobile search. - Google 24/7 - Fortune Tech

That is why Google needs curtailing and the faster it happens the better. They are waging an all out war on affiliteers and I am pretty sure it will get worse.

I would still speak out even if I wasn't involved in affiliate stuff as this monster is now far too big for anyone's good. They carry on regardless laying down the law to all and sundry whilst loading the search results in their own favour. I just hope that they carry on as they are doing because eventually they will be crippled by some law, government or whatever, and the sooner the better if you ask me.

I feel better for that - rant over .

Here is the thing, no one or nothing is preventing you from choosing a different search engine. No one!!! There isn't a law, guide line or even a suggestion you should only use Google Search. Heck you can live in a dictatorship like Cuba and guess what.. You can use Bing if you wanted.

The problem.. and answer.. is Google offers users what they want to use and every update recently has only improved that from a users point of view. As long as users are happy and not changing to Bing or something else, guess what... Google will continue to give users what they think they want because they clearly are not changed their habits.

Google does not own the search market because you cannot own it, they do however offer search engine results that 90% of the market seems to enjoy. This is the best news yet because rather then have to deal with the SERP for several search engines.. I know when I rank #1 for Google SERP, I just hit 90% of the market with only 1 focused effort. This makes it very easy and cost effective for me to make money, Thanks Google!!

Well you have the right attitude. I on the other hand hate being dictated too be it by Google or any other sod. Nothing good ever comes from it. The dictator always becomes too big for their own boots. The only way is to stand up to a dictator to make them rethink. Take some of the arrogance out of them. Works every time. Most are just bullies.

I bloody hate being told how to make a website. If I want to experiment and have fun then I shouldn't feel guilty about it. Now though if you don't adhere to this arrogant giant they not only make sure your pages never show in any search but they deindex you for breaking any of their guidelines. Tomorrow there will be new guidlines and bang without any warning your site could be hit next.

Searches are to everyone's liking? Don't kid yourself. The search results are imposed on you to Google's liking and no other. Now when you search for something you end up with loads of the same branded big player results on the first pages, with multiple results over and over. I would prefer just one result from one company and more selection but no. On top of that Google's own adverts are appearing on the top thereby by passing all the ranking penalties imposed on everyone's elses sites. Fair you say? The whole thing stinks if you ask me.

I can't even find my favourite porn sites now. I end up with discussions about sex instead of the pics and videos I would expect to see. Bloody moronic. Just my unbiased opinion of course.

Articles? Articles?!? You spam a 3 week old forum post on nonsense, but
want us to read the articles?
Already answered this. The links boy - the links within. I never posted an url to the actual thread but a link to a single post that held a number of links to other sites with articles. Get it now? Obviously I should have just got hold of the links themselves and posted them here to avoid all this confusion.

Here is the thing, you have a choice. In some sense I went through this debate with Adsense. They do not allow iframes and I wanted to use iframes for part of my site. They said no, you cannot do it.. I asked again this time with a bit more information and even an example, they still said no. So I took Adsense off my site. See, you have a choice on what you want to do.

As for the search being for everyone's liking, I am merely using your stats to make the point. 90% of the people use Google for searching, seems they are happy because if they weren't they would use something else. Ask Yahoo how that worked out for them when they started to focus on other things and not SERP, people went else where.

The key thing you need to grasp is Google is owned by Google, not you and nor should you have the power to tell them what to do just like they don't tell you what to do. You have a choice, you just need to pull up your big boy pants and make it. I had to do that, I thought I was crazy dropping Adsense from my site after all they are the best paying show in town. Come to find out, there are better ways to make more money, I just had to have the spine to try it out.

I personally have very little concern over being slapped by Google because I do run an authority site in my niche. The only job I have for my site is content, as long as I keep being a leader in my niche for content the users take care of the rest for me. Then again, most people who did MNS style sites thought I was an idiot a few years ago... Now I look forward to updates because it just means I will rank even higher on things as they take out the garbage.

I doubt Google owns 90% of global search, considering China/Baidu.

Truth be told last number I knew about was 80% but I wasn't going to debate it since it very little baring on the discussion if it is 70% or 90%

SEOs writing about google is like crack user writing about drugs.

Look at the forum - Its a4u.

You know - thats the guys creating "quality websites" for "information purpose"
of course, to bring the internet to the next level... and to put their aff link in, of course.

And now google is blocking their autoblog/MfA site/Niche Creator! Damn them!

And to hope for Facebook as the white knight...
I think the crack example was pretty close to the reality.

I know I am not supposed to do this but "baaaaaaaahaaahaahahahaaaaaahaaaahaaaahaa wooooohhhoooooo baaaahaaahaahaaa".

I remember complaining about GOOG myself, then I embraced an new philosophy a few weeks ago. I got in at$700 per share and and got out at $760 per share. Now, I get where GOOG is coming from. He who owns the Search, makes the rules.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to give links to "affiliates4u.com"?
On a 3 week old thread that's just garbage?

        Give me a friggin break.

I think "affiliate" and "google" would spark a war anyway.

If you keep wanting to peddle affiliate garbage, go
        for it. Don't blame google.

Affiliate marketers should have rethought google a long,
        long, long, long time ago.

What's funny about that forum, is that it's filled with
"affiliate marketers" bad mouthing everybody who does
        not like them.

Did anyone read the articles? I don't give a fig about linking to the damn forum. I did so for the articles listed in the post. Saved me having to repost the blasted links on here. Those I thought were very interesting reading. By the looks of it that didn't enter your heads. Touchy lot for sure.

Same can be said about yourself though, I am going to assume you never read how Rockefeller originally earned his fortune. What Google does is actually considered "normal" for multi-billion dollar corporations. So I am not sure what the big deal is other then perhaps people have no clue what big companies do. Obviously these people were not around during the Microsoft - Netscape type things.

(Sure, I like Playboy. But just for the articles.)

So the whole point was to spam a forum post of spam?
      Respamming spam?

I assume we get a database error, as said forum could not handle
      traffic.

      Now, blame that on google...
