Still Google consider the meta description tag ? after the penguin update

The meta description tag has got nothing to do with the Penguin update. The Penguin update was all about targetting sites that had an "unnatural" link profile with plenty of links with the same anchor text or if they had lots of links from certain spammy networks.

The meta description is important from the perspective that this is what Google uses in most instances in the display of its search results. What you enter here could be shown when Google shows your site details in its search results.

The meta description should be seen as your call to action.

In terms of helping your ranking, Google doesn't take the meta description into consideration (at least that's what most people think)

Yes, Meta description is very important and it is the second thing user saw when your website appears on Google.

Make is attractive and descriptive and you will see more users landing to your website.

Google doesn't put much importance when deciding your rank on your meta tags but Google still wants you to have them.
