Everything is based on Google Keywords tool, so why not give it a try. But if you want a good software tool to give you more advanced data, you should get the trial of Traffic Travis and Market Samurai. Traffic Travis has a free version that doesn't expire, but it's short on some features, whereas Market Samurai will offer you most of the advanced things, but only for a few days. But both are worth the money if you ask me.

Google adwords will be your best bet, but if you're serious about seo you'll need to make an investment in a paid tool..

Besides google keyword tool I also use keyworda(.)com to find search terms your competitors are using on their pages, where each term is used and weights of every term in various types of page content

I use a combination of google adwords and travis traffic, I like certain features from both - if they're free then I suggest try them out and see which one you like.

A lot of people recommend MS - not used it myself but am toying with buying it

google keyword tool for basic research. But if you want advanced options, go for market samurai or wordtracker. They are not free but worth the investment. Better yet, buy kw research service through wso's so you don't have to purchase the tools yourself.

SeoCockpit is good tool. Its not free but you can grab a trial and check it. Let me know if interested. I know one more I use. Good keyword tool is must to get immediate traffic from Google. Think of finding 5 good keywords with 2000 monthly searches and with no competition and on top of this your blog is build on authority domain. It means no one will touch you in future if they find those same keywords. This is what I do everyday. If you want to more about my tactics we can skype. Join with me.

No free tool is going to give you the info you need if you're serious about starting an ad campaign. I like the combination of ispionage and Seomoz. With those two tools, you can find out everything you'll ever need.

I think Google Keyword tool is enough... as long as you have the analytic skill on how to look at those keywords and play with it. Good luck.
