Tweets do affect rankings

So I have been reading tweets do affect rankings they say 50 tweets and you should get a boost in the serps.

But here's my question has anyone tested this for themselves? Is it just a random tweet 50 times or would it be best to have 1 tweet and that retweeted 50 times?

I am going to do my own testing and I will let you know my findings but it will be informative to find out if you have found anything out.

Once Google provided real time results from Twitter in that time retweets were considered valuable. Now when a tweet gets retweeted, the tweet made by the profile gets value.

It's not the number of tweets or retweets. It's the quality
        of those tweets.

You can never rely on a numbers game. Anyone who says,
        "50 tweets..." is just foolish.

Having 50 nobodies retweet your stuff is futile. Having a
highly sought after twitter account do it, is another
story. Fiverr offers a lot of this junk. Fake friends doing
anything will lead to fake results.

I agree with Paul but I have seen pages that have tweeted do better in SERPs than those that have not been so all things being equal 50 tweets will only help matters.

I have'nt observed it so far except once. One of my blog post got retweets from big sites likw noupe and have got more than 100+ tweets, and now, it is ranking in top 5 for the keyword "php tricks".
Search for the keyword and you will see my face.

It isn't the tweet that helps.. it is what a real tweet and retweet generates is what helps. Initially you get traffic coming in so you win the first battle, now if you have content worth reading and you have done your job you can also get those same readers to perhaps write about it in their blogs. Then again, if you are writing solid content then playing the tweet/retweet game is the last thing on your todo list.

It's a hugely abused area of seo, so again it comes back to quality, getting 10 re-tweets from real, aged, relevant twitter a/c's is better than getting 1000 auto-blasted RTs from auto-created a/c's....and yes they do help in rankings...often better than FB likes and G+ in my tests...

Yeah I'm not sure where you got that info. I think that if you have a ton of tweets with links to your money page, that this in time will bring you more traffic, and might help with backlinks. Stretch though.

Nonsense. You will see no boost with anything less than 51 tweets.

Well, there is some debate about this.

    - Some people say that tweets directly affect your rankings in the search engines.
    - Some people say that tweets indirectly affect your rankings in the search engines, meaning that when a lot of people tweet about you, you tend to get more people visiting your site, more natural backlinks, etc. resulting in increase in rankings.

No one is absolutely sure. But whether directly or indirectly, tweets affect your rankings in the search engines.

As to your questions, based on what I mentioned above, it's best to get tweets from real Twitter users with a quality following probably. But you probably already know that...

So I think which one gives you better results depends on what types of users retweet or tweet your links through the process...
