Forum Link Building - Getting Banned!!!!

I would be very thankful, if i get an answer for the solution.
I am an SEO Expert having 2 years of Exp. I am doing SEO for USA targeted website from India. When i am doing forum link building, i haven't used any links in my signature at all. And what i thought was just to increase my reputation first with some good posts and later i wanted to put my signature with links. But even though i hadn't posted any promoting content, my profile was banned in some forums which are having high PR.
How to get rid of this problem? Do i need to use VPN for that? I heard that, if i setup a strong VPN(what's that?), the problem would be solved! is this true? :confused:
How to maintain good relationship with the forums? I am very confused on this. Please provide me some solutions. I don't want to be banned!!!
