Hey guys,

I had a quick question about media buying, why would anyone choose SiteScout over Google Display Network (the banner side of adwords)

Thanks

The Google Display Network is limited, naturally, to only Google/Doubleclick publishers. SiteScout not only has access to the Google ad exchange, but a dozen other ad exchanges, which gives us access to tens of thousands of websites that the Google Display Network doesn't have. That's the primary difference. Our interface is also much more user friendly, so you don't need an agency or 3rd party to manage it for you. We also have a much more robust mobile targeting feature set (carrier, device, handset, OS, browser), which is a big deal for many marketers. On top of that, our stats and reporting are all real time (up to the minute), whereas Google has a 2-3 hour delay.

Thanks for you reply, but I only see your primary difference as the only reason. (access to other exchanges)

The interface for google display network is alot like adwords which is pretty user friendly and anyone can manage it so you dont need a need an agency or 3rd party either.

Also the Google Display network offer the exact same mobile targeting feature:

I am sorry but I still don't see the difference apart from SiteScout having a $500 minimum budget and google having minimum budget and a free $75 voucher to get started.

Is there anything else apart from access to other exchanges that makes you different?

Reach is definitely the major difference, especially if you're dealing with audience targeting (retargeting) or contextual targeting; reach becomes very important. But it's far from the only reason:

    - Real-time statistics, up to the minute (I don't think anyone else does this)
    - Extremely granular reporting, down the the placement level (per site)

Both are key features for optimization. Especially with the rate at which impressions can be bought on the exchanges.

As for the $500 minimum deposit, that's an understandable hangup. It can be a large initial sum for some people. It was originally put in place because we felt that the nature of display advertising required a sufficient budget to collect enough data with which to optimize your campaigns. We still believe this to be true, but with some newer campaign strategies - like retargeting or contextual targeting - such a large budget isn't necessary to get started. In fact, we plan on drastically reducing our minimum deposit in the near future.
