Anyone who understands SEO, please read this!!

Hi guys,

I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could help me with.

One of my old websites was heavily penalised by Google a year or so back and I've had trouble getting it back (I think it's been sandboxed or something). So instead of spending many more months trying to figure it all out and making myself crazy, it was suggested that I might be better just switching domains from .com to co.uk and starting from scratch. I thought it would be easier and less stressful that way, so that's what I've done.

But, a lot of the content that I have on the new .co.uk site is also on the old .com one.

So, will Google penalise the new site (co.uk) for having some of the same content, or will it not matter? Should I rewrite 100% of the new content, which will take a LONG time, or can I de-index or bin the old .com one or something?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

    Yes, it is duplicate content. Sorry to say but you need to remove as much as you can of the duplicate content asap and rewrite it all.

    Having a new site with duplicate content is a really bad first impression and you don't want to start your new site that way.

    When you are penalized for a domain and you switched the domain names why did you used the old content on the new one ? Who advised you this ? and above all the same content is still there on both of the sites without any 301 redirection and you still say you started from scratch !!! lol

    Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Really appreciate it! Yeah, that's cool. I'll make sure I rewrite it all.

    I'm a writer, not an SEO expert, so all of this is driving me nuts! I obviously got some pretty bad advice, but I'll make sure I make the new site 100% unique. Thanks again.

    Oh, by the way, what about pages like Terms and Conditions? Do I need to make that 100% unique as well? There are millions of these pages on the web. Surely they're not all unique?

    In my experience 301 redirecting your domain is enough already, the content could be the same. As for why were your site were deindexed, you sjouldn't repeat that on your new site, that's just all you need to do.

    The better course of action for using the same content would have been to remove your .com site and wait for it to be removed from the search engine indexes.

    Then you can recreate the site on a new domain.
