Local domain vs COM vs combination, what ranks best?

Let's suppose we sell some product for local market.
If we had a choice, as with Filipino domains, what would we choose to rank best?

product.com
product.ph
or
product.com.ph

As usual though, the .com domain is often already taken, so most of the times we would really have to choose between .ph and .com.ph

Any ideas about that?

Personally I would get both and use them for different things.

But local domains do work much better for local areas.

      Its not true.
I also thought so before I actually bought a .hn domain. That was a total FAIL. Do not repeat my mistakes.

Now I'll really have to think twice.

Google associates your domain extension to your supposed geo target thus there is still a ranking advantages anyhow of having a local domain to target a specific country.

For me if your content is in English the I will choose .com.ph if it's in Tagalog it would be .ph. Just a personal preference.

I am also thinking more towards the .com.ph for a number of reasons. And your idea quite makes sense too.

This is what I would add:

      1.
.com is more associated with buying things, so among the number of useless websites in our serps, the users would have more clear perspective of where to buy the product. Thus having a .com suffix is always a plus.

      2.
Google itself redirects all Filipino users to google.com.ph so, it is very likely that it would benefits from having the exact same domain extension, and not just .ph

      3.
This may be objectionable, but I simply having hard time recalling any .ph that would occupy the first positions serps. On the other hand the number 1 shopping site here is sulit.com.ph, and it just spams the serp for whatever query you type.

I advise following the big boys and using product.com.ph.

Definitely not .ph as that means very little, if nothing, to someone searching the internet unless they specifically want to buy from the Philippines.

I think you need seo for your site.
Actually product.com.ph is perfect for seo.

The chap is apparently going for Filipino.

I guess some you do not know what level domains are.
.com.ph is just another level of .ph. There would be
no difference. They are both Philippines. The country
is just selling third level domains. If you really want
to think about it, domain.com.ph would be a subdomain,
      or third level.

I can't remember the reason for this nonsense, but probably
to give other countries more domains and maybe look better
with a .com. in there somewhere.

Buy either one if you are indeed going for Philippines.

For me, I would much rather have a true domain.ph
      site. Makes more sense.

Not being familiar with the Philippines, I can't say what is
most common for websites. .com.ph or just .ph. That would
      be a factor.
