Backlink competition spying?

I was wondering what are the best ways to determine where your competitor is getting back links from. I have been using SEO Quake but I keep getting a 999 error - unable to process this request from Yahoo. Just wondering how some of the SEO experts do it? Thanks

I use Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer
Although it shows approximately 2/3 of links that my own google webmasters account sees.
There are probably more automated ways to list backlinks.

I don't like Yahoo site explorer because they show EVERY link from every domain. I like to just see what domains links are coming from and Google does that very nicely with the link command

    link:www.domain.com

However, I do use Site Explorer to see if the links are site-wide or not. Site-wide links aren't as value-passing as contextually placed links with good anchor text.

Good tip. BUT you must make sure you leave a space after the colon or you won't get the right result. Like this link: www.yourdomain.com
      NOT like this - link:www.yourdomain.com

uhh... was that supposed to be a joke or something??

if you put a space in, that doesn't give you link statistics.. that just gives you a search for the word "link" and the domain. I don't think you know what you're talking about.

no it dont, it tells you all the links that google knows about, and if you want to suppress the link: then put in -link: at the end

this is a tactic I told ppl about over a year ago to find the proper links that google knows about.
