Ranking for keywords - My Checklist

Hey guys, I would just like to express my understanding of how to properly go about ranking your blog post for specific keywords. Below is my checklist when doing so, however I feel there are important steps missing and I really hope that an experienced warrior can guide me further as i'm not having great success using these steps.

1) Find a long tail keyword (3-5 words) that have a low competition and low monthly searches (1000-3000)

2) Write an article (500+ words) using the keyword in the title, also referring to that keyword several times within the article.

3) Post article to blog, optimizing tags.

4) Submit post URL to social bookmarking websites (reddit, folkd, digg, stumbleupon etc.)

5) Take part in niche related forum discussions whilst referring people to the URL of your new blog post (for backlinks and traffic)

6) Once post has been indexed on Google, submit the article to article directories such as ezine for syndication.

7) If possible, create a video related to the keywords that were used and link to your article in the description.

What important steps am I missing here?

    You all listed step are good and necessary. Social bookmarking of keyword links, classified add, blog comment and social media would be some good steps.

      The thing is, people use social media for fun, I know 99% of my facebook friends would not appreciate status's about articles I am uploading everyday...

      Actually, if you read the OP you will see that I am not instructing people to follow these steps, instead I am asking for advice on whether these steps are necessary and/or can be made better.

    Don't depend on Google only as the traffic source, you can promote your site/ page to social media sites. Social media is great for generating traffic and also backlining.

      Social media websites do not allow backlinks, there is nofollow on all links so in fact you cannot gain any backlinks that way, and even if you could they would be very low and irrelevant backlinks...

    I think your goal is very achievable using this method. One more important thing is domain name. It would be great if you could have your keyword in it.
