Hey guys,

I have 5-6 PR2-PR4 websites that just sit around the web with no specific purpose. I just wanted to ask is it wise to use them to backlink my swedish site? It's completely in sweden language, but the other sites (pr2-pr4) are micro niche sites with high PR.

Now, is it OK to use them if I don't seperate them with different hosts/ip's etc? And is it OK to use them to backlink my swedish website? IF YES, then should I make a contextual blog post or just add them to the sidebar?

Thanks!

    1. Yes, you can link to your Swedish site - we have clients in the UK, Dubai, etc., who rank from links from our US network.

    2. The sites should be on different Class C IP blocks which usually means different hosts.

    3. Use contextual blog posts - relevant articles with a minimum of 500 words. Sidebar/blogroll links are out.

  • Mandos123,

Search engines like natural backlinks or in other words ones that occur with no effort on the part of the webmaster. While it may work in the short term to link these sites to your Swedish sites, you run the risk of being penalized. I would try separating them if you can as having sites on the same IP linked to each other could look like you are up to something.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

If they're relevant to your Swedish site, then sure, do it (it can't hurt). As for ip's, variation is good but don't kill yourself over it (don't worry about it too much, it's only 5-6 sites).

As for where to place your links, sidebar/menubar links are more powerful than article links (since all new articles start at PR N/A, which is worse than PR0). The article might get better rankings in time, but there's of course no guarantee and why waste time waiting when you can post it on an already PR2-4 sidebar

I would agree with SEO Haven. He obviously knows SEO. Make sure your site is relevant to the site your linking too. Also article marketing isnt as powerful as it use to be years ago.

Your links will only pass page rank if you do a post on the homepage and keep it there. Which is what I would suggest you to do. If you are the registered owner of the domains in whois and have them on the same c class ip then it is not wise to interlink them.

Relevancy is always better but a high pr link from a homepage site can catapult your rankings significantly.

These links definitely won't hurt. If I were you, I'd transfer them to other hosts and then try to sell some links to others (this should cover your expenses and make you a nice profit).

Backlinking a site doesnt harm, if you are doing white hat seo, i am not talking about links with SQL injection or so (Black hat techniques).

If they´re not related to your main site, it´s pointless. At least in the long term. It´s just not right.

I suggest a global footer on all PR2-4 sites linking to your swedish site. Use a keyword that you want to rank for.

      Alert, alert,
You'd do better with an article with a link then a sitewide footer link.

And why is that? Sitewide will get you XXX number of links depending on how many deep pages you have on the site. Makes no sense...

Sidebar links still work fine when you use the url as anchor instead of your exact kw.

Thanks for your advice. So I guess it's more logical to put them on the seperate host? Should I also change the context then? Because those links wont be relevant, or just leave the stuff as it is?

Yeah, this is a good idea as long as you use an article or IN-CONTENT backlink (only a backlink without ANY content between it looks UNNATURAL for Google!)
