I searched the forums and did not find any information regarding this. Does anyone know how much loss in SEO value I would have for taking the .org domain? The .com and .net are just landing pages with $$$ price tags.

Thanks!

There's no loss or gain. There's no loss or gain if you added the word 'elephant' at the end of your domain either, if you get my point.

The only thing that .org might have an effect on is that .org's are mainly used for non-profits so it might be confusing to some people who know what it means, depending on what you plan on doing with the site.

How valuable do you think wikipedia.org is?
Granted they own the dot com, but use the .org.

Not sure where all this extension craziness came from.

Oh yeah. I remember. From domain resellers...

The days of .org being thought of as non profit ended many,
      many years ago.

  • The .com, .net, .org all the same extensions with the same value. The value really depends on the content of the site which will make the identity.

Sorry but that's just not true... I've outranked many com's with my org's, just using better on-page SEO. To tell you the truth, I've almost come to prefer org's over com's.

As Paul pointed out, that's just a myth.

.com is best for seo but .net and .org can rank well too. Depends on the quality of content and backlinks above all.

Personally, I don't think .org has any disadvantages. I see many people have really high rank with .org domain. When it comes to SEO, your SEO tactic is more important than your domain extensions (most of the cases). Just stay away from .info if you want to do SEO. I have bad experience with it (site not indexed months after registration date).
