So I understand that getting social signals for my site is the way to increase SEO.

What impact would the following have:

1)Buying likes via fiver? I don't even know how that works - does it mean that someone has 1000 accounts and then just likes them all?

2)Buying facebook ads and getting people to like them? Would that work to increase SEO?

Thanks,

Leo

Get legit social signals, like a nice LinkedIn profile.

Google will pick the fake likes up from fiverr very quickly and penalize you for it so i would stay away from fiverr

For starters, it should be enough to just open Facebook profile page for your product/website and start getting some likes.

You should also open your Twitter account and get some followers.

Google is smart enough to find the fake social signals especially G+ , create genuine and useful contents , and encourage users to share it with little icons which are easy to share. That is the best way to go forward

      Thanks everyone who responded.

1)Re Fiver, that is what I thought. The problem is that I did this to a site about a year ago - just to look popular - is there a way to get rid of those likes?

2)How does a facebook page help my websites SEO - how are the 2 linked? Meaning does the facebook page have my sites url or does it work by just posting links from the site to the url?

      Thanks.

  • It helps to have Facebook and other Social sites link to your website to look legit, to look like it is actually something people are interested in.
Because facebook is the way people interact with each other, so google trust sites like FB and youtube.

  • So google now picks up on the "likes" from Fiverr? How does google do that, how can one detect it.
I personally am not harmed by this, but I do plan on expanding what I do into using likes and am surprised that google can catch you red-handed now.

  • corner90 also tells a true tale. White hat SEO is the way to go if you want to guarantee yourself safety and security. it seems like every "loophole" that can be exploited will eventually implode on itself.

Buying social never works. Make incentives for people to like your facebook page/any other social site. Incentives work, buying social doesnt. It especially doesnt help for SEO.

I am still confused. How does having people "like" my fb page impact on the SEO of my site? I need them to like my site not my fb page?

Is there something I am missing?

Search engines take these likes and shares as public vote and give weight-age to your website and it's considered to be one of the ranking factor now ..

The concept of "social signals" playing a roll in the SEO of your site is still highly questionable. Its a big buzz word for the past year but there is no evidence of social signals actually helping. Maybe eventually they will but as of now the best thing FB likes and Tweets do is get your pages indexed almost instantly.

You need REAL signals, not purchased ones, and the best way to get those social media shares is to have great content on your website. When you have great content that is engaging, content that people love, they will share it without you doing anything, and for free.

Yes, I agree. But if you don't have time to spend for writing and updating with great content, i suggest you to try social signals services which can provide you this opportunity, with real signals and accounts =)
