This is the correct answer, you need to be creative and get a different domain if you feel the £3,000 price tag is too high. Your other option is to contact the present owner and try to get a discount on the domain and see if he'll negotiate. (I have successfully done this many times before so i know it works).

Slightly off topic, but look at this as you're complainng about the price of domains: 25.com - Domain name for sale
Someone has recently bid $1,500,000 for the domain 25.com. This domain was bought in 2008 on Sedo for about $180,000 and he's now going to make serious 7 figures on it. Now there's a decent ROI

It is owned my friend it just means it's available to buy since the present owner is looking to sell the domain for that price. You can try checking up on whois who owns the domain and try contacting him via email to see if he'll negoitate the price for you, or you can use a domain broker etc.

What about me going for the .eu version instead of .com it is based in the uk therefore in europe and doing business across europe. Will this make it more difficult to do seo and will the site have more of a negative image on a customer if using .eu rather then .com?

It makes no difference in terms of ranking the domain, it's no harder IMO but in terms of your question on the .com issues well it's always preferable to go for a .com as you'll always be losing type in traffic if you use another extension but it comes back to what you can afford and what you think the .com is worth to you.

A country specific TLD, or region, makes HUGE difference in rankings.

Hence, google and others will always have a presence in countries
with sites that use the local or ccTLD.

I'm sorry OP, Paul's right I didn't realise we were referring to a country code TLD my eyes must be playing up, I thought you were referring to the info's, .CO's of the world etc. which make no difference to rankings.

I which case that changes things quite a bit although I still always prefer the .com for type in traffic, it's more recognised globally etc. but if your goal is to target a region only then it makes sense if the .com is pretty expensive to weigh up your options and consider going for the .EU extension.

          Not true.

The TLD doesn't matter squat if you know how to build backlinks the right way.

However you are talking about other countries which may be true. But in america that is over and done 10 years ago friend.

Not true. The country TLD's make a big difference if you are trying to rank for that country.

              If.

But here in america .com tld's are pretty much worthless for rankings because of the EMD hit. I had 20 sites all drop because of it, I just trashed the sites and started tld pages instead and am ranking all over again.

              Just my opinion of course.

                What? .com's are worthless?

                google.com
                facebook.com
                espn.com
                cnn.com
                newyorktimes.com

                All worthless?

                  No no. Keyword domains are.

But I just realized the OP was talking about TLD not EMD (thread mix up on my end). TLD is the exstension before the . and I for some reason thought they were talking about EMD.

                  Mikes right. As usual.

Meh....I'll take Server located in the region with backlink form IPs in the region over it. .coms .nets .orgs then and now are bought all over the world.

I agree. I was just pointing out that TLD does play a role. Not saying it is the most important thing at all.

I'm not sure how affective having a country specific TLD is over a .com for example.
If you setup the .com to target a specific country in Webmaster tools I have found the results to be the same.
