Two questions on backlinks

Is a backlink more important if it has a higher or lower page PR, or is the site PR more important? And second, on Backlink Checker , I have high PR links, some in green, and some in red. What do the red ones mean?

    Yes, PageRank is still important ..but it's not the only thing worth looking for. Relevancy is another big one.

    The red links look like it means they're nofollow.

    Whether a site has PR10, you will only get the PR of the actual page you are linked to..

    When you get a backlink there's three things you'll really want to look at

    PR - The higher the page rank of the page your link is coming from the better

    OBL - The lower the outbound links on the page are the better

    Nofollow - Nofollow links don't carry much weight if any but are still vital in a healthy link portfolio

    If you want REAL PageRank (not what the toolbar says) Then you need to look at the URL in question's backlink profile. Use SEOSpyglass todo this. The link in my sig explains how with a video.

    At first I would ask why are you using such tools ? They take too much of your time and energy. I guess you wanna find your competitors backlinks? There are better tools like Open Site Explorer | Ahrefs Site Explorer and Keyword Tool | Majestic SEO : Backlink Checker & Site Explorer

    These are the top 3 websites that crawl the web and collect data on your backlinks.

    Lets go back to your question,PR is always important,the higher PR the less links you will need to rank your site. Although some might say do follow is the same as no follow,I will not agree with that statement. Get fewer but quality links try to get as many do follow you can. If its no follow and relevant,get them also. GL

      I am sorry but the information above is incorrect.

      Use SEOSPYGLASS.

      The tools mentioned above DO NOT show you if backlinks are still active and live right now. This is what is important. Not historic pagerank link data since OSE and MAJESTIC only update every few months. SEO SPY GLASS IS CURRENT AS SOON AS YOU SEARCH.

    From what I have noticed over the last 6-12 months, PR is not as important as it used to be. I think it still has value, but relevancy seems to have the same if not more value these days. Google is aware of people gaming their PR system, and has adjusted its' algorithm accordingly.
