Forum links are pretty useless. Good for some diversity maybe, but won't increase your rankings one bit.

Beg to differ. I have seen keywords rocket to number 1 placement due to forum postings.

However, PR8 or PR5 doesnt really matter as far as forums are concerned. It's not like a thread is PR8 its really N/A or PR0..

Plus my site listed in my sig is 100% related to my blog. So its not spam at all. However most people are not that related when it comes to forum posting.

It's pretty simple.

Forum posting for backlinks = useless.

Forum posting for targeted traffic = Very useful.

I spend a bit of time each day posting @ high traffic / niche related forums and can generate some pretty nice traffic just from helping others. Win win.

Forums have to be at least PR8 to make a difference in a site's fortune. Links from PR6 sites and less have very little effect on lifting a keyword in SERPs.

I'm sorry, but this is just bad information all-around.

1. A PR8 forum does not equal PR8 backlinks. Your links are going to be buried on a PR N/A profile page and on PR N/A posts.

2. You're saying that a link from a PR5 page is going to be of no use? Really?

You get targeted traffic at least from forums, so while they may not be the best backlinks, google will notice in analytics how relevant your site is to your target market.

Can anyone kindly tell me why forum posting backlink is useless. Please explain why forums backlink will be useless. When you are using links to your signature with keywords you will get backlink when someone visit that links. You will get traffic also. But if you dont have any quality content than these traffic will never last long. But i agree that relevant keyword should post in related forum section is important. You will get backlink plus traffic both from a forum post. I know that if hundred people visit your link from one domain you will get one backlink. So its important that you post relevant link in your keyword related different forums not the same one every time. Ok

Your question has been answered over, and over... not sure what kind of explanation you want.

Forum posting for SEO purposes is now a last tactic strategy for diversity purposes. Its only real use is the direct traffic from the forum(s) as you have stated.

There are plenty. You just have to look at it from their perspective. They clearly don't want you to blatantly spam your link all over their forums, but a lot are completely fine with signature links as long as you're a legitimate member of the forum that is trying to contribute.

You can say that it is less effective as it was 4-5 years ago. Now-a-days Forums have become a regular spot of spammers and people use it just to add links and comment like "Nice Post". This is definitely gonna make the place less worth for quality links.

As everyone is saying Forum Posting is OLD FASHION and deosn't help much in SEO. Well, this is true. For ex -

If you have 20 back links from a PR2 website and have 10 back links from a PR5 forum. The back links from the PR2 website is better than the FORUM.

If you are using only forums for SEO then you are in trouble but in combination with other links they have their place. Even if you gain no other benefit you are learning new ways of increasing your links and before I became a member of Warrior Forum I could have never imagined that I would actually be getting traffic from this forum that has nothing to do with car exports.

Can someone explain why forums are not good for rankings anymore? I understand how your post on a PR N/A or PR0 on a PR8 forum is useless, but what about the high PR forum posts?

By just doing a few simple searches you can find high pr threads on the joomla forum. Obviously it is the first page that has the high pr and if the thread is to a second page already that link will not mean much, but if you do a proper search it is very easy to find a few posts that have a high pr. So not only can it help you direct traffic to your website from a popular forum, it can also give you a high PR back link.

Check the page rank of these posts. I doubt someone would be "redirecting" or "faking" the pr of a forum post.

Forum posting is also an Off-page activity which gives high quality and relevant backlinks in natural way. To get relevant backlinks from these forum sites you have involve in the threads which are highly relevant of your category and only post your thoughts which are relevant.
