How Much Should I Charge?

I had had an SEO company that works by being paid for SERVICE. i.e. If you have different kinds of seo services such as social bookmarking, high PR profiles, and so forth, you can ask to get paid for every single service you make, otherwise you can decide to create a package with a fixed pricing based on whats inside it. Just ask yourself.... how much would I charge them for a social bookmarking campaign? I know it's vague but I think you get the idea behind.

I suggest that you find SEO consultant services that charge their customers a ridiculous amount of money and then tell your client about those services and then negotiate a good price with him. For example: " Other companies usually charge X amount for this service but I will only charge you ( Fair and adequate price)".

Agree with the above post. Charging for SEO is difficult..considering there is no real number for services or hourly. It all depends on how much the client is willing to spend..

Not only is that poor business marketing its just plain silly.

If you can rank his site, get him on a monthly SEO package.

Even if you never have to touch the site again at least your making a re-occuring income from the work you do.

Its all about the customers that keep on paying for a longer period of time.

Any real business that gets results doesn't need to compare prices.

If you have to show price comparisons then your not very good at seo.

I charge my clients anything I want and they follow because I do the #1 thing they care about. Results.

Thats all anyone wants, not a price speech, that will just interest them in the other peoples business and make them wonder WHY they are more exspensive (cuz they get results).

Actually, it's a perfectly viable and effective sales technique. Different salespeople call it different things, but it is simply a type of close. The key to doing it well is building up the competitor and making the customer realize that the service or product the competitor is offering really is worth the price they are charging. Then when you can offer something of better quality at a lower price, it's an easy sale.

Everyone from Zig Ziglar to Ron Popeil has used the technique. It's used in cutlery, cookware, insurance, and a billion other industries.

In SEO, it is especially useful when talking to someone who has never priced SEO services before.

My customers much more appreciate my honesty instead of trying to sell them on something. I guess everyone has their own perspective. But mine is to not list others prices. Its worked out for me but it may not for someone else.

Talking about another competitor's pricing structure is not being dishonest. Trying to sell someone on a good service that you believe in and feel would be a benefit to the them also not being dishonest.

In fact, I would go the opposite way. Not trying to sell them on a good product would be doing them a huge disservice. If you are doing your job right, you have already shown them the huge need they have for SEO in their business. They are going to buy SEO from someone. Now because you lacked the ability to close the sale, they are going to go buy something inferior from someone else.

I hate SEnuke. I should probably remove that. Liked it when it first came out, but it has been surpassed in the market.

I'm assuming you mean GSA. Love GSA. It's running 24/7 for me. Not really using it for any of my client work. I'm much more careful and white hat with those. But for my own stuff, it's a pretty cool tool. You could combine it with something like Scrapebox and SEnuke, yes.

What I meant to ask was the strategies you describe with those other tools, can they be implemented with GSA. Haven't looked at your video though.

I think the only strategy I've ever described for use with SEnuke is to hit the refund button.

As for GSA, yeah it is far better for building links to tiers. Don't think I would every put the links at something I really cared about.

Sorry for the late response, just got back home. I agree with everything MikeFriedman has discussed with you however I want to add a few things.

1.You say that you charge your clients anything they want and they follow because your able to get results.

That's good, you already have a known positive reputation for helping people get the results that they want. According to James, this is his FIRST time doing consultancy work but he has confidence in his ability to help others. He can't charge whatever he wants otherwise his potential client will look elsewhere if the price is too high (especially since its his first time).

First of all your making a generalization. Trust me, I understand that a lot of scam artists use this technique, but it's not fair to assume that everyone who uses it is incompetent. This is a good technique to use to get your foot in the door if your a beginner. As MikeFriedman points out, this technique is used by billions of industries.

Your making it seem as if the client is unaware of other SEO consultant companies. I think the opposite ,if you overprice your service it will naturally cause your client to look for alternatives.

PS: I was not advising James to be dishonest with his potential client. I don't understand where that accusation came from. But I apologize to both you and James if either of you got that impression.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, the point i would like to emphasise is the fact that all work done will be on-page.

If he wants me to do back linking in the future, that's another story and i can charge accordingly for that, but for a one-time fee of probably 8 hours worth of my time and knowledge, what is that worth if i get the desired result for him?

I suggest you to work monthly based or project based. Project based attracts customers more if you guarantee the result for them. If you are new and don't have a website that ranks in top results for keyword "seo", its very difficult to attract customers.

To answer your question, since you are based in UK charge you can charge hourly rate in vogue in UK in your industry for a person of your calibre or a set project fee.

Figure out how much your time is worth to you and how long it will take to complete the project and you should be able to determine a cost from there.

Consulting is about giving advice and probably putting together a full report on what changes need to be made - it does not include doing the work yourself but it can be a benefit of your consultation.

What to charge is always a difficult one to answer. What I sometimes do is work out how much revenue that would generate if I could get their keywords to the number 1-3 spot. An easy way to work this out is looking at the CPC value of the keywords. I then work backwards from that point to work out what I would charge them.

For example, if you are doing SEO for a massage therapist in the area. If you could get them 100 clicks per month and work on a conversion rate of 5% then what would 5 new customers per month be worth to them. Just a thought.
