301 Re-direct For Boost In SERPs

I have 2 sites competing for the same keyword. One is on the page 1, position 7. The other on page 3, position 3. Both pages have a similar link profile and relevant anchor texts.

My question is, if I re-direct the site on page 3 to the site on page 1, will the site on page 1 benefit from the additional (relevant) backlinks from the re-direct?

I am correct in saying that the site on page 1 will get "additional" backlinks right? The backlink profile will not be replaced right?

    Yes you are right. Through 301 redirection, it will increase the additional backlink.

      i did :

      Site A : 3th in serp with key X
      Site B : 8th in serp with key Y

      Site B Redirect 301 => Site A

      I lost key Y.
      So, I'd be afraid.

        Yes, naturally. You would lose you're ranking for keyword Y because the site got re-directed. How did it go for Site A for keyword X after the re-direct? Any bump?

    I lost rankings also,waited 2 weeks but the site was gone from serps.

      You lost rankings for which site? For the site the re-direct was made from or to? How can a site that is getting additional relevant backlinks from a re-direct lose rankings?
