Be very careful starting out the promotion of a new website using well-known artificial link build tactics. It may take a while to get penalised (or not) but anything you do to try and create false relevance/importance of your site is opening you up to problems so be very careful.

This is what I usually do in my backlink strategy:

      1. first month, add more content.
      2. second month, add sites to social networking sites and add more content.
      3. third month, add linkwheel banklinks and add more content

      hope that helps.

Depend on how you are doing it. If you are building the Linkwheel in a way that Google easily detects the link footprints, then it will not be good. But if you can do it smartly so that it looks natural then it will definitely work for you. No doubt about that!

It works really well if you know what you're doing. Don't just go building linkwheels for the sake of building linkwheels, you need to have a solid strategy or else it can spell disaster.

You should make it appear like random and natural posts in order to avoid getting penalized.

Although in the past you could get away with one article on each property of the link wheel and just have a link to the next site, I would never do that today. Too easily detected. If you do it today, each property should have several articles with links to other sites as well. Each property should be allowed to age before linking from one site to the next so as to appear natural and random.

Oh and by the way - beware of advice about such things from anyone selling related services. For some reason their perspective can be slightly biased.

Link wheel can be white hat also can be gray hat or black hat technique in SEO. If you can posting style perfect by penguin rules then I want to announce it white hat. Gray or black hat link wheel or anything is dead from SEO.

Personal experience, not effective like it was, and more risky. BTW, you'd be more careful now, because it's more difficult to get websites which are penalized by Google revover now.

Don't close the link wheel. (Wheels leave footprints)

Chains work better (Unclosed link wheel - Less risks).

    Pyramids/tiers work even better.

If you setup your own test site/s you would know what works. Get a few test sites & push them too the limits.

Your probably talking about external link wheels, but you can run internal link wheels & close the loop without any problems. Why would you run an internal link wheel, because the generate Sitelinks.

    Oh that's my field man.

Linkwheel is still the most powerful back linking strategy if you do all the stuff right..... There are certain things you need to assure while you start building your link wheel.

    1) First and Foremost, if your site is new and yet not indexed, let it be indexed and leave it as it is for at least 2 to 3 weeks, I would suggest even you dont need to do any link building stuff except manual blog commenting on related blogs of your niche....Even be careful while posting, no need to be aggressive

    2) As for link wheel concern, keep in mind that never expect over night miracle with this.. Before penguin, yeah, over night results has been seen or within a week, some sites ranked from no where to at least page 2 or even at page 1. However now, you have to be a bit patient for this.

    3) Previously a singly highly spun article was enough to complete a link wheel.. But now the hidden secret for a successful link wheel is that you must make your content unique and readability must be approximately 90% to pass any Google filters. I dont say you need to create unique articles on all sites, but if you create link wheel with unique articles, then it will be real real plus for you. However if you are not using unique content, there are certain ways you can make your content at least 70 to 85% unique and even more.

    4) Your username on all properties must be different........and if possible add some info and a picture to all of your properties. This will help to increase natural look for your link wheel and also to increase so called social status of your links.

    5) Submit your articles using different IP's and drip feed your submission over a period of 24 hours or at least 2 to 3 days. Later is better.

    6) Your link wheel must be a combination of high pr and low pr social blogging sites like Wordpress, Tumblr, Squidoo and some other sites having Pr3 to Pr5 e.g. insanejournal.com

    7) Use No More than 2 links in your articles.........If possible add a raw link like www.yoursite.com also. One link points to your site and 2nd link to link other properties in your link wheel.

    8) Varied your anchors, like if you are targeting a keyword say best seo blog your 3 different properties have your main keyword, one or 2 have raw link like www.yoursite.com and few different properties has generic anchor like click hre, visit here.

    9) Your last property must not be linked back to your first link property, Either you can link it some related blog ( Not your own) or you can link it to your already created link wheel. Even if you can't do this, just remove bottom link which is used to link other site so that it remain open.

    10) Dont go for high competitive keywords in start. First build some reputation of your blog or site targeting long tail or low competitive keywords. A rule of thumb is that check your keyword in Google and see how many results Google shows. If it is higher than 50k, find some other one.

Pardon me if i forget to mention something, however i have tried to put best information i can after my experience of creating link wheels since 2 years at Fiverr.

I hope it will help you out for any body who wants to know what a link wheel is and how to make a perfect link wheel.
