Ok, so I've been out of the SEO loop since God knows when, and with Panda, Penguin and Porcupine(?) updates that I remember reading about, am left clueless as to what kind of backlinks are good now.

Could anyone enlighten me on how you'd build backlinks for a brand new website with good content and any particular services you'd recommend for this?

Regards,
Sagar

The same backlinks that have always been effective. High PR backlinks from sites with a low OBL. .Edu and .Gov links are more important than ever.

But what really makes the difference is the anchor text, dont use your keyword for every link, generic terms such as "click here" should make up for at least 60% of your anchor text density.

That's a great suggestion. Also try doing Guest Posting which is really helpful now-a-days. Also put naked Url's like www.yourdomain.com sometimes while building links. It makes your post look more genuine.

Here I want to be very clear that what will be purpose of these backlinks we want to do. After the panda and penguin updates the place of backlinks is change from its position. So, let's start Link Building Not Just For The Links! and be always make your position stable to the search engine which will never make vast change of your ranking in search engine.

Everything that used to work still works. Except for forum links which are useless, most blog commenting which are quickly becoming rather useless and article marketing, which still has its value, but much less than it used to have.

All the old backlink activities still work and it will always work as long as search engines are here(I am assuming that you understand the importance of quality over quantity).

It all takes time and patience and there is no quick solution. One or two posts a day and a decent blog post with original content once a week is enough.

.edu or .gov is no more important now than a hill of beans.

Why do people keep asking this question? The SAME friggin
backlinks that worked BEFORE, work now!

Obviously, this forum is full of that info if anyone cares to
      read....just sayin.

Do you people know it's going to be 2013? Get on board,
man, cuz the SEO train is leaving the station and you don't
want to be running for the caboose.

    Niche related.
Blog network, paid links, guest post etc.

UAW can work if used well.

As you said you have great content, so the rest will all happen naturally.

Relevant and Quality backlinks will always work, no matter what update Google make. Moreover you need to diversify your backlink profile so that it looks natural to search engines. That's why you should concentrate building different types of backlinks with natural mixing, for your website now.

The answer to your question is, it depends and what you should do should be based on your risk tolerance. For example,

Guest posting on HR niche related sites: High value, high reward, low risk. These are the holy grail of links.

Homepage backlinks and blog network backlinks: Still work, high reward, high risk. Can get you screwed (Use on sites that you want to make quick $ with and accept their is a chance you will get canned by google).

SE Nuke links: These are a combination of web 2.0 blogs, web 2.0 profiles, forum profiles, articles, press releases, wiki links and social bookmarking links. Reward low/medium. Risk medium.

Private blog networks: (Get aged PR domains, put up wordpress, link to your site). Risk medium/low. Reward medium/high.

Tiered link practices: Basically do SE Nuke type links and blog network links. Back them up with mass XR profiles and mass scrapebox comments. Risk, medium/high. Rewards high/very high.

I am currently using a tiered link building strategy with a variety of tools and blog networks. People say not to use blog networks but i am showing a good ROI by using them. I am already in the black, so anything i make now is just extra profit.

I am going to continue doing this.

In reality it is up to you with what you want to do. If you want something really long term and are unwilling to take some risks to see fast profit then you best stick with stuff like guest posting, manual comment posting, press releases, directory links etc. This should have a lower risk over the long term.

That being said, if your site sucks you will be nipped by Panda anyway.

Best of luck, hope this all helps

Agreed. These are very powerful links.

If you can't seem to find any though, build your own authority blog network for private use with niche related sites.

Good quality links that have helpful & unique content that is relevant to your website's products/services.

Don't forget to diversify your sources as well such as Web 2.0's, social media, forums, blog comments, bookmarks etc.
