Are high PR forum threads worthless?

A recent post was made about forum posting and the general consensus that forum posting for backlinks is worthless. But it seems that the reason in thinking they are worthless is due to the actual PR of that backlink on the user profile or thread is PR N/A or PR0. But, if you were to find a forum thread with a high page rank (say PR5 - PR7) would those backlinks still be worthless?

By just doing a few simple searches you can find high pr threads on the joomla forum. Obviously it is the first page that has the high pr and if the thread is to a second page already that link will not mean much, but if you do a proper search it is very easy to find a few posts that have a high pr. So not only can it help you direct traffic to your website from a popular forum, it can also give you a high PR back link.

Check the page rank of these posts. I doubt someone would be "redirecting" or "faking" the pr of a forum post.

PR7 Threads -
Joomla! • View topic - Irish language translation?
Joomla! • View topic - JED Review/Vote Cleanup

PR6 Threads -
Joomla! • View topic - Help Wanted: Community Development Manager

PR5 Threads -
Joomla! • View topic - Joomla! 2.5.7 Released
Joomla! • View topic - Weird chars on top of my site ()
Joomla! • View topic - Excessive much slashes (/) and "" in hyperlinks

It is my belief that if you choose the right places to post you can get decent backlinks. They may not be as strong as a homepage backlink, but I do not see any reason these backlinks would not be a valuable source to use.

Great observation. My personal opinion is that every link has some value, unless it is spam..basically, a link from this forum for example has some value as im sure all "good" forums have value. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.

i was previously post about forum posting http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...imization.html But some member did not agree with my post. But i still believe that forum posting will never become worthless for backlink if someone post it in appropriate niche

Usually most forums use pagination, which by the time the high PR is built up the thread is pages & pages deep putting your new link on a page nested deep into the thread (PRn/a - PR0).

Posting links on this forum will only get that joomla forum hit with spam, I'm sure the fiverr guys are drooling right now.

It is true that there are multiple pages, but if you are strategic about your posting you can either get in on a useful thread that will eventually have a high PR or you can dig around and find other threads that are still on page 1 and have high pr. I find it pretty easy to find pr2-5 threads that I can drop a link on.

Using joomla was just an example of how easy it is to find high pr forum posts. There are tons of other high page rank forums with decent threads you can drop links in.

On a side note - I once saw a forum profile that had a pr2 rating. How is that possible? They literally threw in a few links pointing at a money site hidden behind text posing as a title as well as a ton of keywords for tramadol.

Also, does anyone know how google crawls the pages? I know a lot of forums you can customize how many posts are seen per page, so does that mean google only counts the first 10 as being on that high pr page or do they just read the entire thread as one script?
