My site currently ranks no.2 for my keyword since some days.
Yet i only get ~25 visits only per day.
(PS. Estimated search volume per month is ~18000 for that keyword.)

Not sure if this is a microsite or something but all my sites that get significant traffic have built content over time and rank for many things. Often it is the unexpected searches that comprise a large part of the search volume. So build more content if you can!

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Obvious question but is that 18000 exact match searches according to Google keyword tool, and are you sure you're definintely ranking where you say you are?

Exactly what I'm wondering, that can make a huge difference in terms of traffic!

When you use Google keyword tool, make sure you are looking for the exact match searches.

Make sure to be logged out of your Gmail account when searching for your keyword. Also, don't get discouraged, but try and rank for many different long-tails and so on.

I think while doing the keyword research, you actually forgot to check the "Exact" checkbox. This makes a huge difference. Why? Because exact means how many times this keyword has been searched exactly (traffic for the variations of the keyword is not counted).

Another thing is that may be the keyword you have choosen actually was trending much in past (for example, some news etc.), but the interest has been fade out now. For example, lets you are ranking for a keyword related to some news, and had 10k exact searches in past. So the keyword tool showed the average according to all the data of past. But now, the interest in the news died and so does the traffic volume. And hence you are getting less traffic.

I hope that helped you out. Anyway, feel free to ask anything else. Have a great stay on WarriorForum! :-)

Also, make sure you filter between GLOBAL and LOCAL traffic. #1 placement gets 42% of the search traffic. The other listings split up the 58%.

Let's not discount one other piece of the puzzle- the meta description entry...
A mini sales pitch in its own, no?

So you rank for the top spot for a keyword- that little line, the one what describes what that page/site is about... pretty important I'd say..

If the line says something really, well, stupid... nobody will click the link even if it is the top spot, right?

Is it local search volume or global search volume?
You need to clarify your target market. I think the number you have provided that global search volume not local, I mean the country you are targeting.

Apart from that I don't think that there could be any other reason. Please check it carefully that what is the search volume for your target region?

Is the number of searches 'EXACTLY' 18000? In the Adwords Keyword Tool, there's an option to show the EXACT searches on the left side. Check that.

Make sure you check the exact keyword in the Google keyword tool. You can also advertise it. I know one website where you upload powerpoint slides, it's slideshare.net. Talk about your website and put a link to it in the description. Yo can also advertise your products. It's free to join and upload.

Sometimes Google shows different results from ip to ip. To make sure you really have that ranking choose to change your ip if possible if not go to hidemyass . com and browse Google and type your keyword.

    And compare the results.

    Hope this help.

Try to Optimize the images in your website, if you have any. Try to rank for them. There is more chance of people clicking on an image.
