Looking for the most simple effective on-page seo tips

I am trying to bring up to date a large site (over 130 pages) requiring minor changes to the content
(i.e no change to the structure, filenames, linking).

While doing this it might make sense to add to each page any on-page improvements which are very simple and quick to add e.g taking a minute or two.

I assume these might include
- Keywords in the Title Meta Tag
- Keywords in Description Meta Tag
- Keywords in the headers (H1 and H2 ?)

Any thoughts on this please ?

Thanks
Harvey

    This & relevant internal links.
    • Keywords in the Title Meta Tag
    • Keywords in the headers (H1 and H2 ?)

I know you said no linking but that doesn't make much sense considering internal links are important & easy to add to an existing site. It's just as easy to edit an internal link as it is to edit a page title.

        Ah - OK.
I meant that I did not want to add more content.
So is there a recommended format for an internal link?

Does this mean adding more content - or - as above is it to do with the format of the link ?

        Thanks

It's just linking out to other sites...just like a real site does.

            I don't follow.

            I currently have links to
            - my other sites
            - affiliate sites

What else should I be doing ?

I mean linking to other sites that help your readers get more value from your content.

Just look at top blogs in your niche...notice that they link out to other sites in almost every post.

And these aren't affiliate sites or sites that they own...they're other people's sites.

You can add in a global footer that interlinks the pages depending on the page...I would also add a sitemap.xml file..update the sitemap.html page, make sure each page has rel canonicals, delete meta keywords.

I would still prefer keywords in meta description to add more highlights.

Ok - but to stress again, I don't want to add new site content.
I just want to add any quick simple seo improvements while revising existing content.

I was talking about linking relevant internal pages to other relevant internal pages (deep linking).

Well I do have links between internal pages but if I did not then what you are suggesting would surely be more changes and not just 'editing an internal link' which you mentioned in your first post. (Unless I am mistaking what you are saying)

(Or do you mean linking to an anchor point within an internal page ?)

I find content is very often key.

Use an image or youtube video in your content.
Don't over use your keyword in the content, stay natural, don't break your head thinking you have to use the keyword, just write as if you want to write to real people.
    Use keyword in url.

Ok, let me rephrase the question.

Are there simple rules/advice to say

      Title Meta Tag
      - how many characters, how often should keyword be used

      Description Meta Tag
      - how many characters, how often should keyword be used

      Keyword Meta Tag:
      - is it worth using this ?

      H1 and H2
      - is it worth having keywords in these ?

      Thanks
