I have been paying $300 monthly for a SEO company to bring traffic to my site (they also helped establish a basic word press site). Recently, the company took down my website due to being 1 day late on a payment. I don't believe that this was a professional way of doing things and am contemplating moving on. I am not getting the organic traffic that I was anymore. I am not sure what to do next. I would not have a problem paying them if i was making money. Should I use adwords or some PPC rather than SEO?? I need traffic.

That's terrible service for the price you're paying. So your site is back up now? If the traffic you were getting from it was indeed organic then it would have been hard for that to be turned off so quickly. How basic is the website? It might be worth either transferring the site away or get someone else to build your new site (or you can do it yourself), and then using the $300 monthly on an seo service that is actually good.

It does sound like you should get away from this "SEO company" as soon as possible so as not to be tied down.

Thanks ichl13. I switched from the wordpress (eshop theme) platform they were using to Shopify. I am back up and running and like this platform much better. There is still some organic traffic showing up, but only about 4 visits daily. They have started the SEO around 3 months ago. Seems like there should be more traffic.

After EMD & Penguin 3 updates many people has lost them organic traffic and they are shouting to get back them ranking position.

I would recommend you to get consulting before opt any SEO company. After paying $300 you can't get result then you are missing proper consulting from that company.Send me skype request if you wanna free consulting.

        Thanks

Do you lose your organic traffic once SEO is stopped? It seems like you would have to continue to pay no matter what or not get traffic organically.

It's surely an unprofessional way of doing business. Anyways, You should also keep in mind SEO doesn't provide you instant traffic/SERP. It need some time to get desired result (depending upon effort and competition for targeted keyword). If you need instant traffic, I will suggest you to go for PPC or Affiliate marketing

That's crazy unprofessional. This is YOUR site...not theirs.

I'd definitely cut ties with these losers.

No that's generally not how it works, unless they're pointing their own sites at your site, and deleted the links. But the effects of that are usually not instant.

Regardless though, if you're not happy with the effects, then stop using them. Backlinks made should usually last even after you stop using the seo company

That's totally unprofessional of them, just because you were a day late? I would definitely not deal with them anymore. Try looking through the Warriors for Hire Section on this forum. There are some great seo service providers that can get you the results you need for way cheaper.

Your web design, hosting, and SEO providers should be separate from one another to avoid this type of thing. They are extorting you, by the way. I would do everything in my power to get on new hosting, transfer the domain if you have to, and find a new SEO provider, preferably from WarriorForum, as there are quite a few that provide quality, reliable services.

Organic traffic cannot just dry up like that....if they really promoted you and you got traffic, their don't own search engines that send visitors your way, so they couldn't have stopped the traffic just like that, except you have been recieving referral traffic in place of organic traffic.

Seems to me there is a great deal you may be leaving out. To take down your site would mean they were not just a SEO company. They were also hosting your site and it seems they also set it up to begin with.

So this was some kind of package deal.

Unless you were dealing with some fly by night people you should have a grace period but if by a day late you mean one day past the agreed latest date then no its not unprofessional. It would be what you agreed to.

There was a package deal. I knew my site needed help and they offered to build a website included in the cost. This basically meant get a free wordpress template. I had to set it up and add all of the products. They are not hosting my domain which is why i was able to setup a new site by the next day. Things were VERY unprofessional and i learned a lesson from it all. MUCH better platform and cart now too. Not even sure on the keywords, backlinks or methods being used. But i am sure that there are better options.

Sorry but if the agreement was that price then you are obliged to pay that price monthly or cease service with them. If you didn't pay the stated price you agreed to then they were in their rights to suspend service. Thats how things work in the legal adult world

People here can claim the price was too high but thats besides the point. They did not hold a gun to your head and rob you. You agreed to the package deal with the monthly payments. You didn't just get a wordpress theme for example. You mentioned also a cart and no no cart provider loads the site with product. Some are quite expensive and yeah even some that are equaled by open source software but thats fine because just because one group gives something away free doesn't mean everyone has to.

So like Yukon just said - live and learn but them suspending service for non payment is not unprofessional in and of itself. Its your contractual obligation.

Mike Anthony..The justification that you have is YOUR personal opinion not a fact of business. There are multiple ways to handle a situation like that. Some more professional than others. I would think that it is obvious that there were more unprofessional instances that led me to move on. I also did not use a "Cart provider". I would not consider a Free Simple Pay Pal cart attached to a free eshop wordpress theme anything like you are describing. Bottom line...they did not deliver a quality product or service as described. I'm sure it happens all the time. Bully tactics don't work with me! That may be how things work in your "Legal Adult World" but it is not a good look in mine. REAL business men know how to bring repeat customers and understand how to communicate properly to their clients. You don't have to put a gun to someones head to rob them.

Its not my legal adult world... this board and business is for grown ups and at some point int he future you will learn again - You don't pay your bills and things get turned off. When you have a light bill to pay and don't you can argue that its my opinion too while you light a candle and claim the electric company is bullying you. It is a FACT of business whether you accept it or not

Mr. Anthony...I would not pay for your services either if you didn't deliver as promised. Who would?? I am a glad to hear you can also tell the future..( a very lucrative business niche you have there). Being that I am a Computer Analyst, I know how difficult it is for some people to be able to be good at the analytical and technical side and have people skills at the same time. I am glad that I am able to utilize both. Being that this is an adult "Board and Business" I believe that we all understand about paying bills. Not really necessary to bring up again or any need to light candles..LOL. But if I find myself sitting in the dark because of non payment of an electric bill, you will be the first person on my mind to blame. Your opinion means that much! So you can put all of my words together and when you finish the puzzle you can join the rest of us on the conversation that WE ALL seem to understand.

I just love what you have said. I would like to add something to your wizardous words. Lets say I have t-mobile plan which I agreed to pay and used for a month,I did not paid my bills, whats going to happen? I will be getting free minutes next month ? Companies signing a contract for 6+ months and see their site ranking after 4,they think they can just not pay and enjoy their rankings. I might sound like a di.c.k,but I own a business we have agreed. I gave you a boost with more links and next 2 months are my profits which you try cut me lose. Thats not fair.

Looking for another angle,if you agreed 300 and you can cancel any time you like. Thats not nice from them to mess things up like that.

This is where the SEO business can get messy. I am sure that it is not that a new business does not want to pay or fulfill the contract obligation, I believe that it is more of a mystery to the methods and a lot of unknown variables that would lead a business to question if they are receiving quality service. Rankings is what the goal is of course. But like some people have mentioned, there can be a mix of paid traffic coming. For myself, it takes a greater understanding of the SEO process to determine if I am receiving quality service or not. Also, if I was using "T-Mobile" as a SEO service per say, I would probably not be happy with the service. If I was using "Verizon" per say, I would probably have better service and feel more comfortable with the payment. Even though they both provide the same service.

Why would you let anyone hold your website hostage to begin with?

Don't ever let someone else host your site other than a major host like Hostgator, etc..., that's just asking for trouble letting some unknown service host the site.

I think you misunderstood my point. He said the SEO place wasn't hosting his site. I do SEO work for a lot of sites. I can't take the sites down if they don't pay me for SEO. The hosting company can take his site down if he doesn't pay the hosting bill. But he specifically said the SEO place was *not* the host. So, my question remains ... what am I missing here? How did the SEO biz take down his site?

To clarify the hosting situation..I am using Go *Daddy for hosting. I allowed them to access my Go *Daddy to point at their Server. This allowed them to have control of my Wordpress Admin rights as well as the domain on their server ( I think I am saying that right ). They stripped my Admin rights to Wordpress and displayed their webpage where my domain would show. I immediately logged in to my Go *Daddy account and changed the domain so they would not be showing their site (also changed my go* daddy password). I then opened a Shopify account and uploaded all my products and then had my domain showing the new site the next day.

Yukon..I was getting about 25 to 30 visits.

Thats where the confusions comes in. I think what you mean to say is that your DNS pointed to their nameservers. However thats just a standard hosting setup. With standard hosting the domain name is always under your control. They put the noticed on THEIR server which they are entitled to do (and you are entitled to change the DNS to not point at their server).

I have hundreds of websites dealing with and sometimes I miss a payment. Make the payment and they turn back on the service. As a matter of fact most all hosts now have things setup so that the suspension is automatic and they can be unaware that it is happening.

    Hi Knowledgepa!

I feel sorry for what has happened to you just recently. The way they do SEO with their clients is pretty bad. How long you have been subscribing to their services? Well, if you have the budget, you can opt for PPC. But SEO is more long-term once you reach the top of the ranks. It really depends on your time and budget. Weigh these options carefully.

      .

I have thought about using PPC and making the $300 my budget monthly. I am starting to believe that I am trying to reach too large of an audience with my keywords anyway. I should have done more research before diving head first into ecommerce..then I probably would have made sure that my niche was 100% before getting SEO going. I am really understanding what a true "niche" is now and how to optimize this niche with keywords. Thanks to ALKsense for the course

I am not getting the organic traffic that I was anymore. I am not sure what to do next. I would not have a problem paying them if i was making money. Should I use adwords or some PPC rather than SEO?? I need traffic.
In the short term I would consider PPC as it does sound essential for you to get traffic but in the long term I would re-focus on the SEO you are doing.

Firstly you don't need to ask a SEO company to host your website and has control on all pages of your website. So control your website yourself and don't allow others to access all parts of it. Secondly, you can learn SEO techniques in this forum and by reading books and tips and then do it yourself without need to hire and pay someone else.

Well about professional or unprofessional. What you say about hostgator? Many times i paid them 2 or 3 days late for my server but i never get my account terminated or suspended...They always send me reminder email 2 times with 5 days period to pay my server bill so i think thats professional...

i have plenty of clients but it is simple if they stop paying i will not work for them in the future but with no reason i shall delete what is already payed for...

After all it is your personal option to give money to anybody!! My advice to you is to choose another provider with services like this : what you pay is what you get ...

Not monthly fee for .. something you can not see...

    Best wishes..

Man,same principles works with hostgator or any hosting provider,if you pay damn hosting, you have the site,if you dont, you just lose it. He made mistake hosting his site with SEO company and signing the monthly contract or subscribing to SEO and hosting service. One of my clients ordered "laser targeted" traffic from internet marketing "GURUS" Verizon and got traffic from Nigeria,China where he's providing service in south Cali,120 visitors cost him 800$,you made a decision over the phone, they can promise you anything,if it is not written mutual agreement, you can't complain. Thats how big boys plays. Only paypal can issue money if you are not satisfied or some other BS.
