Big plans for the new year, huh?

Let me know how going strictly 'white hat' works out for you. I'd say within a month your back ordering links on fiverr.

That may just be the most idiotic thing I have ever heard...

White hat SEO works fine, and us who use white hat techniques are much safer from the big G updates in the future.

As I said in the other thread, for my branded and high quality websites I am focusing on creating links that actually drive traffic to my website. Typically, those are going to be better links overall for SEO purposes, and help to diversify my traffic.

Try to focus on articles published on high pagerank sites.

Write fine 500 + words unique articles and put a link on it and send to as many sites as possible.

And of course try to build as many social signals as you can on each article and you will see that Wonders are really happening!!

I digress! I would say blog commenting is as white hat as you can get.

Back before "SEO", "whitehat/blackhat" was even a phrase and you lot were still squeezing spots in the mirror we were doing blog commenting on related blogs.

That's probably the most favored and expected type of backlink that Google expects you to have.

You think that links that YOU create to your site are the best links for Google?

You don't think that they would prefer other people to be linking to you by their own choice because they liked your site and wanted to tell others?

Not sure I see your logic.

I have a couple of questions about this concept...

I leave comments only on blogs and specific posts that are directly related to my site. I only leave comments that add value to the post and/or subsequent discussion. I use a real name, not keywords, and I put my URL where it asks for my web site, not in the body of the comment using html.

I do this not out of concern for the color of my hat, but because I feel this strategy is more beneficial to me both from a SEO and a traffic generation standpoint.

Why would a blog owner object to this? What's not white hat about it?

If a blog owner doesn't want relevant discussion and/or outbound links to related web sites following their posts, why would they allow commenting in the first place?

I fully understand that auto generated comments and "thanks for the great post" style comments, with links to unrelated sites are spam. However, I feel that what I do is effective, mutually beneficial, and white hat. Lilly white.

Is there such a thing as white hat seo? I would think according to google that On Page SEO would be the extent of white hat practices. That being said, I think guest posting, commenting on relevant blogs and forums, Press Releases, and high quality or directories within your niche would be considered as close to white hat that you can get.

  • White hat will continue to be redefined by Google in 2013. What was considered white hat in 2011 is no longer so. In 2011 so many sites were raking in by posting on directories and article directories.

Exactly. By definition "Search Engine Optimization" is a no no in Google. In ideal world of Google no one should optimize their site to manipulate their placement in Google so all optimization for the sake of search engines is black hat. In reality Google is not so black and white in its assessment but conclusion is inevitable, this is why Google keeps raising the bar until we all have to buy ads from there to show up on first page.

The main aspect of Google in 2013 is to provide local search results to the geographic location of user. SEO in 2013 would be very effective if you select authority author from nearby location, really choosing authors from location where search query is generated frequenty would affect search results so Geographic location is very important for SEO 2013.
so i think we will have to make a lot of changes in over SEO techniques in 2013.

You should spam the hell out of comment, profiles and cheese article directory.

Make sure you have lots of porn and illegal backlinks to your website.

Use some paid BMR style sites to backlink to your site.

Get crappy fivrr gigs and buy some software to automate your backlinks.

      Did I miss anything?

Do all this and you should be back working for someone else in no time.

Content + traffic. Good content people come back and link.

I agree that we need to take more of a white hat approach to SEO now. I have been using a new SEO strategy that is half white hat/ half black hat and has been working great.

You no longer can just blast thousands of links directed to your site and hope that you will get ranked first in google. Good working SEO takes serious effort and time now.

Social media such as Google + and guest posting will feature heavily in 2013. It has already become apparent that social signals are being taken into account. As far as guest posting, its actually been around for many years, its only become prominent due to the issues with other means of obtaining backlinks. Guest posting, if done correctly offers multiple benefits such as traffic and high authority backlinks. As long as the content is engaging and compelling, its fits in exactly with what Google is looking for, enhanced user experience.

I think people know what to do, they just don't want to do it.

As someone posted earlier in this thread, Google keeps cracking down.

I don't think they are deliberately forcing people to have to use their paid ads though, they simply want and are promoting quality content, which I agree with.

Guest commenting is fine IMO, anything in excess is not good. People have died from drinking too much water, the same applies in SEO...everything in moderation.
