I plan to try getting links from software directories and have several questions for you guys. I'm sure you know the answers. So, please help me.

1.What kind of software are acceptable there? If I only create a software that opens my site ... will that be accepted? What cheap software would you suggest me t create?I plan to pay on freelancer, but no more than 3-5$ for that.

2.Are these links still effective.I plan to do them to rank one video on Google.I noticed that my top competitor (with video) has a lot of PAD links, which makes me believe it still work.

3.Should I change my anchor and my profile username every time (like in social bookmarking, article submissions and so on) to hide my footprints or to do that with the same names?

4.Please share your opinion on that kind of links. I've never used them before? Will it be possible to get penalized for that? To how many sites should I submit?Do you have more suggestions on ranking youtube videos on Google?

Thanks in advance

I have done it with 2 sites using Fiverr service.

The seller created a puzzle game software that I hosted myself.

First time it was a year ago and had great effect.

Second time was about 6 months ago with NO effect, nor good or bad.

So... be quite careful or better do not use it for your own sites, for Youtube videos of course you may test them..

A lot of marketers are using PAD submissions and those directories are spammed, you get spammy backlinks.

In many cases the software directories are auto approve so they do get accepted but be prepared that a large part of the links will also be removed not too long after.

When you use software to submit to those directories be very careful as the company name functions as anchor text, previously it worked extremely well with EMD domains as mostly the domain name is the company name so then it was easy to stuff your keywords in the Company Name field.

However with the EMD update as well as the Penguin update you need a great diversity of anchor text's and PAD submissions are not suitable for that when you do it automatically.

Negative link velocity is also a very bad thing and that happens when the directories see you submit a crappy puzzle that every other spammer does in the same or similar way and thus remove your puzzle and your links obvious.

That's why it's better to stay away from PAD submission softwares or create a good piece of software and submit it in batches to 10-20 different sites where you chose a different company name each time (that way you keep the anchor diversity on a decent level. I would also only pick the PR3 or PR4+ sites to submit too.

Another thing, totally seperate from what I wrote above is when you host too many PAD files on the same server, the directories will automatically detect that and auto-remove your submitted piece of software so that's another thing to think of when you get involved with PAD's in a spammy fashion.

Hey Mods, how come warrior forum is allowing some spammers to post a spammmy hyperlink during their first post.?

        Back to OP:
Hey, even I was doing PAD submissions long back, (early 2011s), they were effective during those days, but with the recent updates, they have lost their real value due to people spamming them. May be your competitor might be on top for a short span of time. But I'm sure that is going to hurt him if he is getting too many links from pad sites to his money site. So if you really have some software that you wanna release do it, other wise if you are just doing it for backlinks, I wouldn't recommend it.

I've had excellent results with PAD files. Nearly all the directories give you a dofollow link in return for a puzzle game.
