Optimising a site for multiple location specific keywords

Hi,

I wanted a bit of advice on optimising a site of an actual physical company that want to rank for a keyword but with lots of location variations.

In the past I only have experience doing things like adsense sites where I have tended to have an article/page optimised for one key word.

If you have a company that wants to rank for location specific words what is the best way to do it.

For example

Computer repairs Manchester
Computer repairs Lancashire
Computer Maintenance Liverpool

plus other citys and abbreviations etc

Optimising one page for lots of keywords like the above would be quite difficult without the page looking spammy as you've one got one title, H1 tag etc.

I have noticed some companies will make a duplicate of their homepage but optimise it for a different town, is having separate pages for each location based keyword the best way to do it?

This site is one example and they seem to rank pretty well:

IT Support Manchester | IT Outsourcing | IT Consultancy | Network Installation | Network Security
IT Support Preston
IT Support Blackburn

All they have done is duplicated their homepage and changed things like the title and a bit of text on the homepage.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Dan

I created directories for each area I was targeting for a local business and then created a page for any service we were offering in that area. Make sure you right unique content for each page and then interlink them. Simple enough....
