a website seller posted his blueprint for the taking.

trying to figure out his backlinks as he says he only has 200. what's the best software or web based backlink checker? i need something that is free or at least affordable. thxxx happy sunday!!!

The once we used before was Yahoo Site Explorer - it's free and gives comprehensive landscape of on-page and off-page linking. It's now removed from the web.

However, Bing Webmaster Tools features Link Explorer which is pretty much the same as Yahoo Site Explorer and it's also free. It's like Google Analytics buy way better.

So, I suggest installing it and have fun

I really like SEO splyglass for this type of thing, in my experience it gives you the most data out of any of the tools.

Bare in mind, I'm pretty sure most of these tools can only give you data based on what's been SHOWN as indexed by the SE's. So the person might have 500 links shown as indexed and actually have more like 5000 links.

There's no such thing as a perfect backlink checker, this is why I always use more tools and compare their reports. Some of my favorite tools have already been mentioned by other users, but I'd like to list them all in one place:

I go with Majestic SEO. Its Backlink History feature helps to know the number of detected backlinks for a certain domain, subdomain or URL. It also shows the websites linking to a certain website, the anchortext used, as well as the page and domain authority of the linking page and site.

I use hxxp://majesticseo.com - it's always done me especially well. I can also get metrics like keyword density of inbound links. It makes it very easy, for instance, to check if a site has heavy inbound linkage from a small concentration of keywords (for instance, if it was affected by Panda). Anybody else have experience w/ Majestic?

Nobody mention about hxxp://www.ibacklinkpro.com . Its free version is useful to work and its also allow to download data in excel file on free version. So what i am using now -
