Sheesh , everybody knows that  What r you a noob?

JK- I dont know. Somebody will though.

    Edit: Maybe I do actually.

Alot of people use plr for content on their webpages, so it could be more valuable if its seo'd.

I think that might be a decent answer.

PLR is when you create articles and content on certain subjects...giving people license to use your articles, resell them maybe, give them away, use them for webpages, free gifts for their mailing lists...

    For example:

You may write some articles and sell them to people on the basis that they can use them however they want, whereas most reports and articles you sell them are only for their own information, not to be used for any public offering by anyone but yourself.

Better answers will come forward Im sure, but thats my understanding.

    Hope it helps.

    -John

plr = private label rights. it refers to specific resale rights (rr) that come with an item when it's acquired. in internet marketing the items are often ebooks or articles. a few of the types of rights we more commonly encounter are:

basic resale rights - these are among the most limiting. can only sell the item. can not edit it or pass on rr. the buyer to whom you sell to can only use it personally and not edit or resell it. i've also seen ebooks that come with giveaway rr where the above applies with the exception that item must be given away and not sold.

master resale rights (mrr) - give you a little more leverage. can sell the item and pass on rr with it, however you cannot edit it. the buyer cannot edit it but can resell it.

private label rights (plr) - these give you the most freedom are are typically the most sought after. these allow you to not only sell the item with rr but you can also edit the book in any way you desire including rebranding it.

although those descriptions are fairly accurate, the seller determines exactly what the rights are and they can vary slightly. often when you purchase resale items they'll come with some type of license agreement. for example, here's one for an mrr ebook i have:

      MRR License for this product:

      YES Sell Master Resale Rights
      NO Edit/Alter the Sales Materials
YES Added to Paid Membership Sites
YES Added to Free Membership Sites
YES Can be Packaged with Other Products
      YES Sell at Auction Sites
      YES Offered as Free Bonus
      NO Given Away for Free

and here's one for another ebook from the same seller:

      MRR License for this product:

      YES Sell Master Resale Rights
      NO Edit/Alter the Sales Materials
YES Added to Paid Membership Sites
YES Added to Free Membership Sites
YES Can be Packaged with Other Products
      YES Sell at Auction Sites
      YES Offered as Free Bonus
      YES Given Away for Free

notice both have mrr but the second can be given away. like i mentioned plr are typically the most sought after and when i used to purchase a good amount of rr ebooks and articles that's what i always tried to get. the only time i ever acquired mrr items was when they came bundled in a package with something else i was getting. generally when you get plr all the specifications in the license say "yes" meaning you can do pretty much whatever you want with it.

so to answer your question, plr ebooks and articles are used in seo because it can be a good way to get a lot of content. the thing you must keep in mind is that although content is king, it typically needs to be original content, and as such you really need to change/reword the article to a significant degree so that it will be counted as original material and help in the ranking process. it can be used in other ways, but that's how i used to use it. furthermore, this is where plr have the advantage over mrr or basic rr in that you can completely modify/edit the material to fit your needs.

it's been a while since i've bought and used rr ebooks and articles, but from what i can remember that's the gist of it. hope that helped.

A PLR article is one that is available on the web, for anyone to use as they see fit.

An unfortunate misconception about PLR. Most PLR has some restrictions placed on it. Whether it be restrictions on the rights you can pass along, types of sites you can use it for or even if you are allowed to claim authorship (not a good idea either way).

Brian's answer above is pretty thorough, so make sure you read it if you want to know more about what PLR is about.

As for SEO benefits, the main use for PLR for rankings is to have more relevant content. Make sure that the articles are well written. If you are concerned about duplicate content or you want to add your own voice, then rewrite it.

PLR is also used for creating eBooks, etc. that can be used as rewards for list building purposes, etc. This can have an indirect affect on SEO when the list is used to direct traffic back to your site. More traffic that is targeted and doesn't bounce will also help SEO.

      I disagree with this.

PLR articles/content are great to form a basis for a well thought out SEO based blog post.

Of course just copying and pasting the PLR article onto your blog is worthless for SEO, but anyone that is using PLR merely for copying and pasting is not taking full advantage of the value that PLR provides.

If you put together the keywords you want to rank for and then reformat the PLR content you have to fit those keywords, then you just saved yourself the time you would have spent researching and writing about a topic from scratch.

This is especially useful for people that may not be that strong of a writer, or have difficulty coming up with topics on their own.

Private label rights. You can do literally anything you want with it, like post as articles on your sites, compile into a product ebook, while claiming yourself as author. Best is to rewrite it into unique content before using on your websites.

It is good for seo because it can be easily rewritten into unique content for your sites, someting that google totally loves. You don't have to do your research when rewriting PLR aince the content is all there. Make sure you don't use the plr content wholesale without modifying. You will NOT gain any good SEO as the content has probably been used and published by others.

The only exception to this is when the seller sells the PLR content to you exclusively, and is never resells it again.

PLR stands for Private Label Rights. A PLR article is one that is available on the web, for anyone to use as they see fit. Some take these articles and use them as content on their own website, which causes more cases of duplicate content – which is a bad idea. These poor souls don’t get the real idea behind PLR, which is that it is intended only to be used as raw material.
