Here is kind of stuff so called SEO professionals are selling you when they promise you high page rank links. I have created a public document with some examples from nature.com, blackeyedpeas.com and others.

What is interesting to me is if you start looking at the anchor text used in the comments, the sites don't rank for key phrases. It doesn't work!

      Well it also prevents them from having a secret that nobody else knows. Regardless, as long as nature.com leaves an opening, it will keep happening.

    Yes, I can't understand how a site with such a high PR has becomes a Spam. Most people will take a link on these sites considering high PR, but are unaware that these sites will harm their websites.

    I'm sure google knows there are people that buy and sell pagerank and links, but I assume they don't have the time to go after them. Unfortunately it does promote a black market so long as these companies can buy and manipulate the pagerank. Mostly they get caught and the people they sold to eventually get in trouble too.

    Wow, that's amazing. I was surprised to see the pagerank of nature.com. Its showing PR 8 and getting a link from such a high PR domain would be worth it. The thing that spoiled the value of links from this site may be because so many people have spammed the site and it has become kind of a link farm.

    However, I do see some of the sites in the comments have good page ranks like PR2, 3 and above. So, even if these sites are not getting ranked for their keywords, they might be benefiting in some way like PR increase. Could that be possible? I think it is worth experimenting!!!

      Yes, I do believe some are getting pagerank sadly. I wish Google would do something about this like detect pages with a high number of spam comments and reduce the pagerank sent out by the page, and even not display the pagerank of the page so it would be hammered by spammers.
