My website is currently on a .org exact match domain with unique content and is on page one of Goggle spot 5. I've invested in 2 link packages for the current site.

The .com version is now available for $280.

Do you think it would helpful if I purchase the .com, transfer the site over and do 301 redirect or should I just leave it as is?

If the .com is worth $280, then sure. If you're willing to pay $280 for just the domain, don't bother - unless you're a branded business like Amazon where your customers will be returning regularly.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Yes if the EMD/keyword term is valuable. It's good to lock it up so that your competition don't **** with you in the future.

Ive done this before. You might lose rankings inititally but they will come back. Also .com prob has more EMD value than a .org. I can't proove this. I just get the feeling that it is from experience really

Another common myth. .net ranks as well as .com, so does .org

I remember SEOmoz or someone did a case study back in the day. Cant even remember now.

They registered XYZsadfd random domain name in different extensions. Put up same content. got links on the same pages to all of them..

        .com ranked first.

Whilst it is possible for all domains to rank well. There may be some truth to what i said.

But at the end of the day, it doesnt matter, we are like debating over minute margins of value... like tiny percentages in Googles algorithm. So **** it, you win, whatever lmao

It just makes no sense, since Google doesn't really involves EMD, so if you want to buy it for a 280 $, it is a waste of money. Before it was possible to outrank some authority site for a certain keyword with an EMD. You then would just put a little content on it, build up a few backlinks and you was able to outrank almost anyone, if that anyone doesn't have an EMD. But this doesn't work anymore.

What if he has a legit site and the keyword is worth something? if hes making a few hundred a month from the site its a no brainer.

Just because you were throwing up shithole 1page sites on an emd and ranking before and cant now, it doesnt mean him buying a domain name for $280 is bad.

Do i know its a good or bad decision? no i dont. I dont know the keyword or value of the domain.

You are just ill informed though.
