What Else Should I Do?

Hi,

I'm promoting some new sites (entirely new projects).

Let's see...

Let's call it "Site #1" (niche site) - not doing too well yet.

Site launched in September 2012 (then it had about 50-60 visits/month - mostly myself). In December is had about 500 visits (some actually came from Google Search)
Still PR 0.
About 500 monthly visits (prolly 20 % is me).
1 (single) Facebook like (fan).
Google sees no backlinks.
I am getting several shares via SM buttons (by AddThis)

have done the following:

OFF-PAGE
-launched like 10-20 guest articles on various related resources
-bought 1 link on a PR 4 directory page
-acquired 150+ forum "do follow" signature links on a related forum (in 4 months or so)
-acquired 20 other forum "do follow" signature links on another relatedforum (in 2 months or so)
-left 2 in-post links on a VERY HIGH QUALITY (possibly the best forum in the industry), they are both "do follow" and editors left them there
-left about 110 DISQUS comments (URL can be accessed via clicking the link)
-left about 200-300 various blog comments with a wide variety of anchor texts (site name, few keywords, deep links, main page links etc.)

ON-PAGE:
-been launching new articles: about 2-3 per week (have about 60 pages total by now)
-have been optimizing for faster page load, smaller page file size
-smartly optimized for Panda, LSI etc.
-have enriched text as much as possible and have used a fair amount of internal linking
-have only used "nofollow" links for outbound links and for duplicate internal links, as well as the main site banner (it's also "nofollow")

I'm advertising wherever I can, concentrating on guest articles. But I couldn't get even PR 1???

I'm experienced, been working in the industry for 10 years. Yes, this is a "rare niche" site, but I was expecting at least PR 3 (having links across pages with decent PR), should have a lot more visitors per month.

Why do you care about pagerank?

You're ruining your whole business if you're sat there caring about page rank.

Google ranks websites based on over 200 factors, and unfortunately, page rank is one of the least important factors. You should be focusing more on:

    - Great content
    - User interaction
    - natural backlinks
    - etcetc..

Build a business, build a community, build a following. Please don't worry about page rank, it means nothing.

Also: Pagerank updates once every 3-months (or so), so don't expect to see daily updates or anything. Next one is due around February/March by my guess.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

No, I care more about visitors - I just mentioned the PageRank for posters to see... it's a metric, has some importance, even if not much lately...

How are you optimising your site? If it is PHP-driven, have you considered full page caching? (shameless plug: our full-page caching system at UltraCache - the ultimate, low-level cacher for insanely fast websites is pretty amazeballs)

Microoptimisations like CSS/JS unification will only get you part of the way, your hiccup in page load time is always going to be page load time and not supporting objects load time.

      It's a HTML-CSS site.

Try submitting to directories and build links back to those directory listings..

It's an interesting idea to build links to the pages where we have already placed links! Thanks for the tip, mate!

Good - then your page load should be fast Try to reduce the number of CS/JSS files by combining them if possible.

You are already doing a lot of things. Just take care that you do it regularly and smartly.
