SEO and the enter button for website

I have seen websites that have a button that you have to click before entering the main website. I wanted to know what the negative impact of this is. I was thinking one would be the indexing of website links simply the homepage should include the most important links on the page. Anything else you can think of or any articles you can direct me to?

Thanks in advance

How do you get to this page? Through the search engine or paid ads or directly?

The index page doesn't have to be the strongest page. It generally is because people like to link to it more but it's just a page at the end of the day. You could just as easily make a random post as the most powerful page on the site, you just need to make a lot of internal links pointing to it, and build more links pointing to it externally.

Sounds like a splash page which would be poor user experience, also not much help for SEO. Why would you want to rank a page with no call to action?

Traffic won't stick around If you make them jump through hoops just to find the content.

Most users would get frustrated and will leave your website if you keep such pages. This will increase the user's bounce rate.

Generally speaking, the home page of a site is going to have the most links pointing to it, and therefore the most link juice to pass on to other pages via internal linking. So if that page instead just has an enter button, it's not passing link juice to internal pages in any form of optimum way. I can't see this situation being good for SEO at all. Sure, you can work around it. But I don't know why you would want to. Bad SEO and bad user experience.
