How is this possible?

Really confused about backlinks ranking now.

Just been looking at a site called payday-mom.co.uk, ranking number one here in the UK for "payday loans", looking at it through serps attacks it has no backlinks but using ahrefs.com it has over 80,000, here`s the thing though, according to whois the domain was registered on jan 3rd 2013! how is that possible?

Three week old site, 80,000 backlinks, number one for a competitive niche, am I missing something?

No way that this domain was just registered and already has 80,000 back links. I think that there is a mistake in those numbers. Maybe it is more like 80.

Unless they took an older domain name that they had 80,000 back links and redirect that to their new website.

I completely agree with you. There must be a 301 permanent redirection. Otherwise know ethical way of such SEO.

Surprise...blackhat seo methods still work...at least temporarily. Check back and see if that site's still listed so well in a month.

Having done a bit more digging seems to be an SQL and JavaScript injection, blackhat method but i guess that site is going to make some money then when it`s binned...on to the next.

I get that site in position 1 as well at the moment. Website looks like its designed nicely.

It certainly is an acheivement getting a site to number one in that short space of time. If what you say is correct I don't think it will stay there very long!

if you check the backlink on the site, you will see that those links are not visible. and it seems they exploited a bug/hole in a plugin.

Also, if you look at the backlink information provided by ahref, first backlinks started on the 15th Jan 2013. Just been told on another forum this is some kind of "hack" trick used by some black hater....not my style so did`nt ask anymore about it.

*just checked again, another 15,000 backlinks added today, total now stands at 106,000! how on earth are we supposed to compete with this kind of aggressive marketing?

*update* seems there is a method of hacking someones site using javascipt injection, then dropping a backlink on to that page with out it being visible but recognised by the search engines, found this link from someone who has had problems. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...joomla-website

80? LOL. 80 backlinks wouldn't get you in the top 100 pages in that niche.

I know people creating much more than 80,000 links in a much shorter time frame. It's not that hard.

Who said it had to be ethical?

The PayDay Loan niche is well known for churn and burn sites. People create these sites (and they are usually pretty nice looking or they won't convert well), spam the crap out of them, get them to the top of the rankings for a few weeks, make a ton of money, watch them crash and burn, and then rinse and repeat.

The funny thing in all of this is that 'mom' isn't a British word, here it's 'mum' instead. One of the competitors should inform both Nominet and Hostgator, pretty sure this would be taken down fast by at least one of them.

I noticed in the source code of multiple domains, this guys backlink shows up in the source code exactly one line below the Share This HTML code comment.
    <!-- SHARETHIS BUTTON END -->
Looking at the HTML source code do a page search for By PDMOM on the backlink pages, one line above that you'll see the Share This code.
