What's even funnier are his suggestions for link building. All he suggests basically, is to create decent content and hope to get linked to. Sure, that'll work, after 12-months of blogging your ass away for 8/hours day. Oh, he also suggests uploading a PDF document for backlinks..

Using his "strategy", it'd take me 8-months to rank an Amazon site.

I understand the page is horrible for it's slow load time, but honestly it's very easy to read and aesthetically pleasing. My question is how do you create nice free floating text like that on top of an image in a basic wordpress post? What program or editor is he using?

I don't participate on this board anymore but a thread participant PMed me to ask my opinion on that offer and I came across this thread. I haven't read any of neils stuff yet but here is my opinion on this discussion -

Some forum posters just have the personality that because they are not well known they will trash whoever is even for completely nonsensical reasons. It helps them to feel better about themselves but their criticism upon any deep analysis turns out to be total nonsense.

So the guy uses an infographic for teaching purposes on some of his pages? SO what? Is it the studied opinion of this board that a SEO must optimize every page for speed and SEO? No matter what else he is trying to achieve? Has it occurred to anyone that there are pages that a SEO might not even be trying to rank or want to rank? . Anyone that even bothered to educate themselves would see that Patel is into all kinds of traffic generation not just SEO so should you expect him to use only SEO in a launch (truth is for launches SEO is not optimal)? As matter of fact some people know how to use infographics to drive good traffic.

Who made the rule that it is forbidden even for teaching or traffic purposes for a SEO to use a large infographic (which as one person has already pointed out makes the lesson easy to follow and read)? Sorry thats absolute nonsense. Just because your internet access sucks doesn't mean everyone elses does. So the guy fails SEO 101 but just happens to have increased traffic for scores of top name companies?

Don't know him, never read him but if that portfolio is true then any sensible human being would concede he has an impressive client list including some of the top Internet companies online. So you have a guy well known for increasing traffic being criticized by someone who nobody even knows for a fact gets any traffic at all just based on an infographic. Think about it a few seconds and you will see how silly that is.

This is why you CANNOT learn SEO on this board and frankly why it is probably the worst board on the internet to discuss SEO (not bad for general IM though - only the SEO board really reeks). There is no deep thinking here, a bunch of silly criticisms, every body runs around like an expert and 95% of the board knows a few ( many questionable) SEO techniques and swears thats all there is.

Now if only I can get former customers and readers who Pm me about subjects like this to contact me away from here then I could retire in peace.

That Infographic on Site Speed and Performance - The Advanced Guide to SEO page took ages to load and then i closed the page in frustration.

Your the 2nd person to say he might have purposely made the page load slow, I can't imagine a reason why anyone would do that.

Outside of SEO it's a completely poor user experience. I bailed before the huge background image finished loading, I'm sure other traffic did the same.

If he wanted to increase the page loading time all he would have to do is remove the HUGE background images, anyone that's an SEO knows that, it's not advanced SEO, it's common sense. Not meant to flame, just saying it's poor SEO & poor user experience at the same time.

Google checks page speed because it's a good indicator If traffic will bail from the page.
