Are Web 2.0 no good for link building

Link building as a state of mind is flawed. Make a great site and people will figure out who you are over time. Maybe submit your site to some directories that have an editorial review process, and then get busy making your site amazing and worthwhile.

dvduval, you are partially correct.. "link building", as in setting up links solely for the purpose of seo is a state of mind that needs to be shifted. Promoting your site on web20's are a great way to gain exposure and traffic, and the link power that comes with it ought to be a plus, a bonus to the work you put in to setting up sites on web20 platforms.

On the other hand, it is false to assume that people will find your site over time, great site or not. How are they going to find it? You could have fantastic content, all the information and entertainment that anybody could ever dream of, and that's great.. but a new site stuck on page 73 will not be found without some sort of link building, regardless of whether purposefully for seo or self promotion. Submitting your site to obscure directories with some promises (and payment) of exposure is, in my opinion, a waste of time and money. Who goes to directories to find what they want? Do directories even rank? Web20's rank well and have traffic, both of which you need.

Jinx is right, and Web 2.0 still works really well. Just make sure you diversify your links! You'll never rank with just Web 2.0.

I would say those are the BEST sites to get links (If you do it properly).

Write good content (say more than 500 words) and post that article on web 2.0 and get link back to your site and make sure your web 2.0 links are indexed by Google - to do so, go for some bookmarks for your web 2.0 links Or Ping them.

Usually, if you get links to a website all of a sudden (After a huge gap or may it is a new site) - ranks used to go up and down - That is called "Google dance" - to overcome, you have to keep on getting backlinks...

Reading into your post, it seems to suggest that you previously focused your link building efforts around 2.0s, and you're now asking if that's okay since the website those links were targeting dropped in rankings.

Web 2.0s, as part of a diversified link building campaign, are still quite useful. But they are just one component. I wouldn't think that your use of 2.0s all of a sudden resulted in your site dropping in rankings independent of anything else. My guess is the issue is a bit deeper than just the source of the links.

It depends on what you are doing and how you go about it.

Your site probably have been hit by a mild penalty arising from over anchor usage.

While wordpress, web 2.0, hubpage might not give you what you want immediately until you inter link them by building other links to them like tier 1 and 2.

Web 2.0 sites are still one of the best sites to build your backlinks on. You just need to do this properly. You need to write good content, add new ones if possible, optimize these sites as well and get some backlinks to rank in SERPs. It may be a slow process but in the end, it's worth and and it is very effective.

May i know how shld tier 1 being built?

For tier1, do u mainly build on web2 sites? or article directories?
How many properties do u build? 4 / 8 / 10 for tier-1?


When building 4-8 web2.0 &/ directories articles for tier-1,

That mean: there will be 4-8 PR (N/A or 0) 1-page site, and will blasting hundreds of links to these tier-1 will help to rank the money-page for the targeted KW?

From my point of view - those web 2.0 sites still help as far as we can get contextual backlinks on that method. Anyhow to get success with SEO, only web 2.0 links are not enough. We have to go for more combination of backlinks using other methods like social bookmarks, directory submissions and etc..

Yes web2.0 works! I NEVER used web2.0 (specifically blogging sites) for the first site I ranked, and it took me 8 months of mindless backlinking to rank that first site. It was a disaster cause I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea how important it was to generate lots of unique/relevant content and get my links up on various blogs.

My second site, is close to hitting page 1 already after only 3 months, all with web2.0. Right now I'm adding an aged private .com to the mix, to give me a boost, but web2.0 definitely works.

The one thing I noticed where I made the biggest mistake, last time I ranked a site, was that I wasn't making any RELEVANT backlinks. This site has 1/10th the amount of links, but they're all highly relevant, and the site is showing much faster improvements because of this. It seems to me now, that relevancy is the most important factor when it comes to backlinks.

One of the best link building method now besides guest blogging is web 2.0 properties building. It can be very very useful for your site's ranking.

In case of article directories, you can even post the article published in your site. It will not hurt you at all.
In case of web 2.0 sites, you should use spun articles. Each properties should have different version of articles.

A web 2.0 alone cant make the slightest of movements in the SERP. its a pr n/a link thats not really the kind of link you should be shooting for. however building backlinks to those web 2.0's in the form of tiered link building is a great way to funnel link juice to a site.

you dont necessarily need unique articles for tier 1 backlinks. could use the same article in multiple web 2.0s.

web 2.0 links are the links from social networking sites. they are one way links.

I think yes because I have been working on these sites from so long and not getting the desired results.I am not getting the desired traffic and keyword rankings.
