hi guys,

do you find using good adwords keyword tool acurate for doing keyword research when looking at the search volume and compeition?
#adword #google #keyword #tool
  • Yup!

But it's no the only toolbox in my shed.

I also look at demographics of the keywords, pagerank, domain age for ranking keywords, and even SEMrush and SEOmoz stuff (Like their backlink history and how their SERPS have gone in the past. For example, if they have been hit by Panda/Penguin you can see almost to the DAY (April 2012) if they tend to cheat - or if they really are good at what they do)

Then I make an 'all inclusive' decision from there who my 'true' competition is.

I find GKWT a great resource for search volume.

However, using it to find keyword ideas is not that good. There's tons of great long tail keywords you leave out if you completely rely on it for that purpose.

Competition as well. When researching keyword competition google search is usually enough, accompanied with tools like traffic travis or market samurai.

For keyword ideas, try using Google Suggest and uber suggest.

That tab is for the competition on the bids. Even though we use it for keyword research it is a PPC tool.

  • It is NOT for competition for organic search results.

It is for the PPC search engine.

I use it all the time and I believe it to be accurate. It's in Google's best interests for it to be accurate as it wants to keep paying advertisers happy.

yes i understand in for the clicks. thats why i was asking if it actuate for natural results.

how would we determine the real competition for natural results? or would we just take it, that it would be similar as show for the cost per click

For me too, Google Keyword Analysis tool just works for filtering the keywords I am thinking about. Then finally, after getting a filtered list I choose some of them and go ahead with my SEO process.

They are not similar. You can use any tools to count that. Most proper keyword tools count competition. I use webmeup and seo power suite. As I know they count competition based on the organic SERP. Also I guess they use Google Keyword Tool as one of the service to collect keywords.

I use the Google Keyword Tool alone rarely, only for keyword research, after that I go to the software to count the necessary keyword metrics.

hello friend, Google Adword keyword tool is most accurate but it depends how you use it . I would suggest to use FILTERS while a keyword search. Find a keyword with high search and LOW competition. I usually use adword keyword tool with http://serp-checker.ezmlm.org/ for best results.

    thanks
    good luck!

More or less. The Google Keyword Tool is quite accurate, particularly if you use it properly. You have to set the proper filters so that you will get accurate results. However, I would suggest that you use a second tool as well, just to confirm the results of your keyword research. Market Samurai or Cyber Niche Finder can provide these for you. In Cyber Niche, you not only get the number of competitors, you also find out the possible page rank of your chosen keywords. It has a lot more parameters, which makes it more accurate than the Google Keyword Tool.

Keep in mind that the total number of searchers isn't really relevant for SEO and you're going to be competing with a different level of advertiser competition for each keyword you target.

I run Adwords search campaigns and some of my ads get a 15+ percent clickthrough rate on certain keywords. If there are several ads each pulling in that kind of CTR, as well as organic results, you might only get a fraction of the total traffic as an organic result.

Remember that you're competing with advertisers whenever you're targeting high-volume keywords, and that advertisers have the advantage of being able to customize their headline and ad copy for CTR -- something that SEOs can't do. A lot of keywords will only generate a fraction of the traffic volume that's listed in the keyword tool.
